Saturday ..... another kid, a 16 year old beauty was killed by a Bull Shark at the mouth of the Swan River in Fremantle .... she saw a pod of Dolfins and jumped off her jet ski thing to swim with them but sadly the shark was there too.... the first person to die in one hundred years on the Swan River... others have survived.

I had one under my board last Friday. And then I was just drying off on the beach when another surfer was chased out the water not five minutes later.

Like I always said, if we want to protect the apex predators of our oceans, we also need to protect their food resources. It’s no good raping and pillaging our oceans to satisfy the global export markets, and then leave the sharks hanging and desperately looking for food closer to our shores.

Years ago I had a tank full of tropical fish including 3 angelfish.... eventually only one Angelfish remained... every fish was attacked and eaten.. moral to the story, too many apex predators are bad for the environment....

Sharks should be culled.... you cannot keep taking out the delicacies and leave the apex predators.. ... we should be walking around the beaches seeing seals everywhere.... and fairy penguins... nifty little animals like that.

You know I think the ocean is the most important thing especially the fry and smaller species because those animals feed the entire planet... they feed bigger fish, they feed sea mammals, they feed sea birds... and us...

I fucking hate sharks.. they eat everything.. the seals and whales and turtles and there are far, far too many sharks...

My family are crayfishermen .... my brother said our waters are infested with sharks... they are a fucking nuisance and worse.

Also, I wished I had the news story showing this mother whale protecting her calf fighting off sharks that surrounded her 25 rows deep at least... sharks are no where near being on any endangered list like they try to claim.. . They are running out of seal to eat... the sharks are responsible for beaching whales as well...

Nah... don't look at me to defend sharks... apex predators should only be 10% of the animal kingdom....

They are all coming down from Asia because the Asians over fish their reefs...and we at least TRY to control fishing... we have to breed bloody snapper and dhufish then release them in the wild now so anglers have got something to fish...

This is what I would do if I ruled the world...

1. REMOVE the plastic pollution...asap

2. Cull the sharks

3. Ban fishing for two years to fish stocks up...

Culling sharks serves zero purpose other than needless cruelty to animals. Of all the sharks in the world, there are only a very small number that are potentially a thread to humankind.

The stat’s in Australia as far as fatalities go, average around 1 fatality per year over the past 50 years.

You talk about removing delicacies from our oceans? Thousands of tons of seafood are removed each year for the export market. We can have a sustainable future if it weren’t for the greed of commercialism and free trading agreements into SE Asia and the rest of the world.

When I lived in WA, the crayfishing industry was a potential threat to me as a surfer. They baited crayfish pots with bloody tuna heads and offal right off the back line, some less than 300m away.

Drum lines don’t work. Another case of attracting sharks closer to our shores and putting people that use the ocean recreationally at risk.

You were talking about the whole ecosystem earlier: remove the shellfish, crustaceans, baitfish and pelagic fish and see how that anyone of those can upset the whole balance.

Nah…culling doesn’t work and it’s a cold hard fact.
Education is the key…and there’s a helluva of of people that are in government that know absolutely fuck all about the ocean.

Humankind is an absolute plague to the Natural Living World and it sucks.

If I ruled the world as such, I would outlaw religion, and focus on birth control. We don’t need to bring another soul into this godforsaken world every time some dickhead and twat wants to fuck for the fuck of it…

Is it quite dangerous to go for a casual swim in any lake, river or seawater body in Australia @Omnipotent?

Shark is my 4th favourite seafood, following closely behind scallops, clams, and oysters.

Yummo.

There are no sharks in lakes... but I am from a professional fishing family... my dad and his crew got eaten by sharks in 1964 when the CathyJo went down in the Abrolhos Islands and I find the obsession to "protect" sharks to be obscene.... as I have said.... bullsharks are NOT an endangered species and those bloody things are in their millions in the ocean and they have no business in Perth's Swan River...especially one 2.5 metres long.... fuck sharks and fuck the idiots who enjoy the environment being ruined by them and the human lives being lost by them.

And there we have it! You want to kill sharks because you have some vendetta over a past tragic event. Sharks play a vital role in maintaining a balanced ecosystem in our world. How uneducated and naive you are to make such an obscene statement!?
It’s one fatality a fucking year on average.
And you call yourself a Christian?
Jesus fucking Christ!

I want to kill sharks because TOO MANY APEX PREDATORS ARE BAD FOR THE ENVIRONMENT...

My dad and the crew lost their lives in the wilderness waters...where NO ONE swam...obviously they were in shark territory.... but the river is ours.. sharks can fuck right off.

Lol at people thinking sharks balance the environment... omg...

Sharks are protected and yet dhufish and snapper are fair game... we UNBALANCED the environment by that very notion... that Valarie Tayler banging on about grey nurses made a point.... FOR GREY NURSES but that shouldn't extend to every variety of shark... sharks do Not belong in the Swan River... WE DREDGED IT... formerly pre-settlement a large shark could not entre the river system.

Anyway... I would NEVER SWIM at the mouth of the Swan where that young girl lost her life. My grandfather used to swim his horses there and did it for decades. And no shark attacks so what does that tell you?

The river doesn’t belong to us...it’s part of the whole ecosystem. Sharks were swimming the Swan in search of food before humankind was even walking on two legs.
Do some research and try make a positive difference.
I’m utterly surprised that you would pass such judgment on another living creature, particularly when I presumed you were a lover of nature and the environment.

Anyway... I made my point and the professional fishermen will do the right thing... behind everyone's back.... which is the right thing to do.

Fortunately.... they're on my weather group so I'll get the skinny when the job is done.

Dredging parts of the river to make it more accessible for boats, yachts and ferries doesn’t mean Bull Sharks and other sharks weren’t able to gain access into the waterways. Even Aboriginal art paints a very different picture from what you’re concocting in your mind there Caskur.

“Commercial” fisherman will have their licenses revoked and have a hefty fine as well as possible jail time if they were to try break any laws imposed by the Fisheries Department. Laws are put into place for a goddamn reason kiddo!

Nah, laws are put in place by bullies to stay ahead of people without the good sense to break them.

Sorry...

Don’t make uneducated guesses and ridiculous statements and I might be quiet. An adult Bull Shark can push through the shallowest of waters to get to where it needs to. As for the juvenile pups…they only requires an inch. Elementary reasoning right there sunshine…
