This may sound bizarre , even some what cruel but around the holidays myself and two friends use to go to the cities homeless alcoholic sobering up station ( the tank ) with warm clothes that we got at goodwill during the year a bunch of sandwiches and whatever fruit we could afford , and a dozen or so bottles of Richards Wild Irish Rose wine (preferred by most street drinkers ) As the fellas would get discharged in the morning the first thing they wanted was to panhandle to get a bottle to stop the shakes. The tank only let them sleep it off as the police would round them up on cold nights and bring them in. So we had a van we parked out on the street we'd offer them some food and clothes and after they ate , we made them eat what we gave them , we gave them a bottle and sent them on their way. The trouble makers were invited as well as the needy , BUT we never took any crap. We had our reasons for doing this but now times are different and it's not practical any longer.
