When it first launched as WebTV it was a unique company.
Then Micro$oft bought it and changed the name to "MSNTV".
The relationship between users and the powers-that-be began shifting and people started getting spurious "Warnings" for ridiculous things. This was proven to be the work of at least one compliance dept. drone at MSNTV who had buddied up to a bunch of Karens and they set out to 'remake' MSNTV in their own stodgy judgemental image. If they had simply taken on the questionable porn content (common keywords being "lolita", "teen", etc.) regularly posted in the firewalled newsgroups I would have applauded their efforts but of course they instead went after users they disagreed with politically or with whom they had long-running feuds or who had the GALL to use expletives in their posts!
You get the picture.
A gaggle of net-nannies and their pet corp. button-pusher went on a tear to "clean up" the service without addressing any of the issues that might have actually made a difference.
That's about the time I lost track of the day-to-day stuff; by the time MSNTV officially closed shop I hadn't logged on in years.
It could have a been a niche but successful enterprise; between corp's insistence on folding it into Micro$oft's family of proprietary crap and the rampant abuse of users by "rogue" Micro$oft employees it kinda just slowly ate itself.
So a corpo ruined it. Figures.
