Sometimes I smother them in gravy....
But the proper way to eat them is with no gravy or any other condiment.
You gotta chew them and really enjoy the texture of the pastry (and do not get excited and make an ass of yourself,
@Lily, the outside part is a pastry, even thought the whole thing is called a pasty). It is hard to describe...it gets kinda doughy in your mouth...the pastry is another thing that is different than an empanada. It is lighter, more kinda chewy...and normally there is more of it on the edges...thicker edges.
But sometimes I smother them in gravy because I am a rebel.
