I didn't say it was only in CA. There is a affordable housing crisis around the United States. It's more than wages. It's the supply vs the demand that is most impactful.

One of the huge problems is investors buying single family properties and renting them out as a business. Families can't compete with real estate investors from Wall Street.

The boomers have contributed to that issue as well by purchasing investment properties to fund their retirements.

I keep my commercial rates lower than the surrounding area. If tenants have been with me for a longtime, I’ll offer them better units when they become available. This last round of renting I let one move upstairs to a bigger unit and she told me her friend was trying to convince her to move into the building she rents from because everyone moved out and it’s empty. She told me she won’t leave because I’m a good landlord and there are more perks staying with me. My goal is to form good business relationships and give back to my community by allowing nonprofits that support kids to utilize our spaces for events… not just make top dollar as a slumlord.
