An internet search for "Teflon and cancer" opened a Pandora’s box of studies linking PFOA, a chemical in Teflon, to kidney cancer. He took samples of tap water from his home, his father’s home and a few local businesses, then shipped them to a Canadian laboratory for testing.


Each came back showing extremely high levels of PFOA. The discovery led to intervention by

and a class action lawsuit by village residents against Saint-Gobain, prior owner Honeywell International, and 3M. The suit was settled this summer for $65 million, which will pay for loss in property values and medical monitoring for residents.

In fact, they threaten virtually every American.

Absolutely. I don't use teflon at all and haven't for years. I also have stainless steel.

Chipped teflon pans is when you start ingesting more into your system.

Overheating teflon is where it really becomes problematic. It releases chemicals into your food at high temps. Don't be ridiculous.

Don't be ridiculous and heat your Teflon pan to 620 °F, and you'll be just fine.
