When Police Homophobia Kills
On May 26, 1991, Conneack Sisomophone, WHO WAS ONLY 14, agreed to Jeffrey Dahmer’s offer of taking some photos for money. He posed for two pictures before Dahmer drugged him, drilled a hole in his head, and poured hydrochloric acid into it. Dahmer left Sisomophone in his apartment unconscious and went out drinking.
When Dahmer returned to his apartment, he saw Sisomophone outside naked on the street corner talking to three women. Dahmer approached the group, told them he was Sisomophone’s friend and tried to lead him back to the apartment. The women told Dahmer to stay and that they had called 911. When two Milwaukee cops arrived, Dahmer told them that Sisomophone was his boyfriend, that they’d had an argument, and that Sisomophone had drunk too much. The women who had called 911 were upset and frantic and tried to point out to the officers that Sisomophone was bleeding from his buttocks. The cops told them to butt out and shut the hell up and not interfere in a domestic incident. The cops then covered Sismophone with a towel and walked him back to Dahmer’s apartment — and to his death.
Even though the officers later remembered a putrid smell coming from Dahmer’s apartment, at the time they did not investigate AT ALL. They didn’t even run Dahmer’s damn name, which would have shown the cops that Dahmer was a convicted child molester. No, what the cops did was escort a young man to his death and then make jokes about gay people on the police radio while Sisomophone was inside Dahmer’s apartment being murdered.
