My husband, from New Jersey, calls them sammiches. Although, he is the only person in his family who has only slight vestiges of a New Joisey accent. Only a very few words here and there. Like radiator.
There is no such-a-thing as a New Jersey accent as a single thing. It goes anything from neutral (mine), to Bayonian, to southern. It is all very diverse, or should I say dyvoice.

Oh, and I too no longer eat bread except on rare occasions.
In olden times, when I lived in NoCal we used to make a sammich went like this.
2 pieced Branola bread, tomato, romaine lettuce, haas avocado, and oil/vinegar dressing. Yum...very good and tasty.

I had a Gloucester accent in my early years, moved away for a few years, returned, and it was all but gone. Then we kept moving every 3 or so years and my accents melded into something often undistinguished from anything but it depends on who I'm talking with.

People often accuse me of being Irish... lol

I get Irish Travelers coming by ever summer wanting to blacktop my driveway on the cheap because they always have "leftover" product on their truck from a "job they had down the street."

I always just chat nicely with them for a few minutes before sending them on their way.
