Who the fuck came up with this retarded system of teaching kids to only be able to add or subtract by a horizontal line of dividing up numbers by 10's, 100's, 1000's and the remaining single digit?

My kid is having a fit because I'm showing her a simple and traditional method the kids are not being taught and I think it's criminal negligence by these so called teaching professionals.

I learned math by doing it on paper, like #1. That’s how you do math other than using a calculator.

Now, I DID learn to do math in my head by the second method when I can’t visualize the numbers. Nobody taught me that, it’s just something that was easier to do in my head and it made sense. However, that’s not a way to learn math. You need to SEE the numbers and learn how calculations work. Simple stuff like 9x4=36 should be ingrained but you don’t learn that without knowing how numbers work.
