Sounds to me like this was just a troubled kid.

A troubled kid with a gun.
A gun he obtained even though no one his age can legally have it here in Michigan.

Dovey, I want you to re-read the sentence I quoted above and then tell me that guns aren't the problem.

Yes. The gun was not the problem.

If it was why havent my kids gone out shooting people? I've had guns for years.

You have a troubled kid. Who was ignored and dismissed by school staff after showing MANY clear warning signs. The problem here is negligence.

Plenty of kids attempt to commit suicide. Several succeed.

The problem is not the tool. If Ethan didnt obtain a gun some how he would not have been less disturbed and less homicidal. This entire event could have been prevented.

Blaming the gun and the fact that law abiding citizens have them is a lazy non solution and perhaps a way to continue being negligent. Instead of looking at the real issues here and putting in work, regulating is easier and more politically satisfying for those who already have a bias against them. It doesnt solve anything.

It's not a maybe that this could have prevented by the school. It's a certainty.

You dont just ignore the kind of shit this kid was doing. When it's so obvious other students knew to stay home.....come the fuck on.

He was in the wrong kind of school for condition.

The point is the school has a job and obligation to the kids.

And because they failed this, 4 other students are dead.

My husband stayed after work last night making arrangements for the 4th victim and putting a digital album together for the family. All he wanted to do after that was come home. But it was late and he had to be up at 4am to go back. (Its a few hours drive). We know people in this school district. My oldest has friends who go there. HER school received copy cat threats and closed down Thursday and stayed closed and we are not sure if school will be open Monday.

This kid may as well have stated his intentions with a megaphone, there was so obviously a problem. All they did was an email and meeting with the parents. That same day the kid murdered classmates.

I've posted before that Michigan schools do not do anything if a student or students are having a serious crisis at the school or being ghoulishly bullied. One of my daughters was so intensely sexually harrassed by a group older boys that she broke down. I was in that school multiple times over it. They "talked" to the boys but that was IT. It didnt change. They were NEVER disciplined. If she went to the office they would just have HER sit in there until next class. Like she was the problem.

And Joe this was not run of the mill "kids are mean" bullying. My daughter was so distressed she was throwing up at school from anxiety and her grades were dropping. She was afraid of them and they were humiliating her on a daily basis and it was all sexual. I'm SURE the ring leader is going to become rapist if he hasnt already.

It wasnt just my daughter targetted either. They harrassed a handful of girls and would grab the girls hands and put them on the crotch of their pants. I really wished my daughter would have squeezed and twisted....but they scared her too much. They just escalated their disgusting behavior. It was so bad I took her to the police station and I pulled her out. It certainly wasnt just me that was in there telling the staff. There were other moms as well.

These schools need to be much more involved in the safety of the students. They dont have to hover and fix every conflict, but when another student is behaving in ways that would get them arrested as an adult.....it need to be dealt with. Even if they have to REMOVE the student from the school and require the parents to put the child into some program. We have some really good ones for troubled kids here. Acting on the plethora of warning signs they knew about from this kid would have prevented this from happening.

If they cannot manage something so basic or are not equipped to handle problems that are very blatantly a threat to the other students safety, they should NOT be a school.

Absolutely no one can say they didnt see this coming because they DID. So much so that some other students chose not to go to school that day due to that countdown and the threats. If THEY can see it, the adults have no excuse.

If the school was wrong for this condition, SOMEONES job to know that and get the kid in the appropriate place. And by someone I mean the school.

It's sad and frustrating that this just becomes another partisan narrative and political fight.

That shooter was definitely special ed and shouldnt have been there if he was autistic. He should have been at another school.

That alone might have saved the lIves of the other kids.

Anyways these kids who harassed your daughter - were they children of parents who'd been to or were in prison? Seems they learned that from their parents. We're they White? Black? Other?

Well I agree Joe but this kid was completely neglected. The people who are supposed to make those decisions blew it off. And the stupid parents bought him a GUN.

They were white. No clue if the parents had been to prison. I cant dont know anything about their home lives.

I dont even fucking know if the school ever bothered to talk to the parents. I know the police sure did.....though I never got a follow up because by than we were done with that school, and on to therapy and alternative options.

There were no political motives.

They are saying that because....and I kid you not....in 2016 the punks MOM posted an open letter to Trump.

Actually Dovey - not entirely true that the school didn't do anything.

They actually had counterrorism drills for students on how to react to potential shooters a month before this attack. And during the attack teachers and students locked and barricaded the doors.

...so somebody must've seen something was coming in the future.

Had there not been any training at all possibly even more students might have died in the attack.

Yes Joe all school have active shooter drills.

What I'm saying is Ethan had made multiple threats. He had deranged behavior. He was posing on socail media with a gun. And....he had a countdown on instagram to the shooting. Several students had brought concerns to the staff.

All of this was ignored.

Omg. We are entering Idiocracy. I'm repeating this and no one is getting it and this should be obvious as fuck.

4Chan is saying those kids shot were Chads and Stacys at the top of the school pyramid of bully culture, worshipped for the money college football brings in. If anything it looks a bit like class war, franked by authorities charging with terrorism.

The shooter targetted by Chads because he was Beta special Ed.

Not true. He shot random students. I think the terrorism charge was dropped......as it should be because his parents voting habits had nothing to do with this. .

I love how that standard only goes one way and the hypocrisy is just so natural to dems.

Maybe but he did shoot a prominent Chad and they want the stadium renamed after him. The rest seems fair though.

Yeah... that boy tried to wrestle the gun away. So he saw it happening and rushed him.

I dont really like calling people Chad's seriously but sure......he was a Chad. He died and saved some lives :/

Sad tho.

I dont think the kid was seeking any glory. I think he saw an active shooter (who wasnt running from a mob yelling "friendly! I'm running to police!").....who was actively shooting people...and wanted the violence to stop.

The other kids knew this kid was going to do something violent, sadly no one who could have prevented this did anything.

We need to look at that.. but it's going to be used for a partisan tool instead. Because these people do not actually care at all.

Here you are you little fucker! Up to no good as per usual and stirring the pot. Surprise…surprise!

Whatever do you mean?
I bought my own gun as a kid. A Smith & Wesson .38 police-issue revolver. It saved my bacon on more than one occasion. It takes maturity and great responsibility to own a gun as a kid.

My oldest has two guns.

She also is stable, healthy, not neglected, and is trained in firearm safety. She also hunts.

See no one is going to address any of the real issues. It's just more corpses to use as political fodder. :/

People are horrible. Truly fucking horrible.

I’m not even going touch this other asinine argument that any person outside past curfew during a riot cannot legally defend themselves against an active shooter.

I see fucktards on the right….

Dear idiot, the courts struck down that curfew as unlawful, you moron

Shes an ignorant piece of shit.

The dumb argument is that people from a community cannot go out to defend the community from rioters when the state is allowing it, and that if rioters attack them they cannot defend themselves.

They are level of stupid that is a real threat to our rights.

I have to patience or sympathy for people so rotted in the head they are supporting domestic terror and going after regular people who defend themselves against this state sanctioned violence.

I honestly hope these riots break out on the streets where these people live. Then I want to see them do what they think others should do when they are attacked.

They have no empathy and no common sense. Anyone who just casually says "deaths in riots are inevitable" while they are supporting the "cause" of the riots and getting outraged when someone defends their life is sociopathic. Evil and stupid. Those "inevitable" deaths are of peoples sons, daughters, parents....et. They have every fucking right to continue living. Their life isnt over just because narcissistic psychos like these "people" have decided their death is "inevitable" and their cause comes first.

It's not. And it doesnt. And it's never going to.

I’m saying that anyone walking down the street could have been shot at or hit by a stray bullet during that riot… and then what?

Only chance you gave in those situations is to kick the gun out of the assailants hands. Never grab it with yer hands otherwise yer dead. It's the element of surprise which catches an attacker off Guard.
