Heya fellow Bastafarians

I was just reading something on the web about foreign operating systems online. Is it okay to post links in here?

Basically, I think some of you realize Windows is a steaming crock of shit, and most Linux or Unix based OS are similar in design... somewhat user-friendly on the outside and full of trojan horse ladden trap doors as far as vulnerability goes. In other words, it's very easy to hack into.

So anyways... this is a part of what I read on quora.

"Actually, Windows XP is widely used in the facilities of our government (Claim: I am Chinese). As we all know, Windows Xp is no longer supported by MS Inc. for public use, However, MS still develops OS patches every month(or longer) for the Chinese government.
What's more, last year, CETC (abbreviation for China Electronics Technology Group) and Microsoft have agreed to form a joint venture, which will create secure Windows-based operating systems for Chinese government organs and state-owned enterprises."

"Russian government was using proprietary things such as iphone, ipads, windows, macs for workstations.. After 2014's sanctions and win10 release they decided to move all the it infrastructure to its own to be able to control it - no one wants 24/7 spying by microsoft or apple, and also they can break anything in a moment by Obama's ask. Actually, the world is in a big trouble because of control from USA: a lot of IT giants are in USA and USA gov has such projects working like PRISM. And probably Russians cant have a lot of such IT giants they still have one of the best engineers all over the world. In the country here is a "Free Software Foundation" which is lobbying free software to be used everywhere in the country and these days this organization takes much more attention than before. After the sanctions have begun the Internet Development Institute announced a project called "national operating system" which goal is to create national OS which is the one only permitted to use in all the government. The OS should be running one pcs and mobile phones. Also gives a hope an Elbrus - Russian processor (Elbrus-8S) - in the combination of both Russia may create a fully import-independent devices which can be used in the government. However the plans for OS were saying the implementation should be available until 2025 so before 2025 or the implementation date Russia will probably use it's own version of linux. Personally I think national OS would be a fork of linux also but it needs a lot of time to ensure that linux kernel will not spy and break by some command of another country. It may sound paranoid but when the talk is about government, military and real spying you the verifying process should take place.
If you are asking about OS used in military - there is some heavily modified linux called "Mobile System of Armed Forces". However this is public information I believe any country in defense point can only use it's own software obviously so we would never know what actually OS/software/hardware used in defense forces unless they will tell it publicly but I believe this will not ever be possible."

A few of my friends were discussing their fav OS the other day and fuck if I can remember the details but someone mentioned something about old operating systems still being used for gov and whatnot. Pisses me off because I liked XP. I've never been able to successfully operate any of the Linux distributions I've attempted to install over the last few years so I can't even comment on those. :LOL1:

I wish I could find a copy of Win XP (that would run on my newer equipment), that shit was rock solid.

I liked xp as well.

I used Vista and 7, and I reluctantly bought a laptop with 10 installed. At the moment I'm using a refurbished Vaio with 7 installed and I kind of fubared the damn thing to the point where I can't even access the control panel.

...by the way, I want this thread to serve as a general discussion thread for us Elite when you care to discuss matters behind closed doors from the main board. It's possible that I have some nasty malware and my account might also be compromised. If you have mod tools, feel free to check my IP address every single time I make a post for verification purposes because Chicago is kind of fucked up right now.

For those of you on FB, have you noticed that the user options may differ greatly from server to server and they change at the drop of a hat?

I haven't seen that happen too much lately. A bunch of their servers were down for almost an hour the other day though :LOL1:

Vista was garbage, I didn't mind 8 but I don't like 10 very much. I have 3 desktop pcs. 2 run Win 10 and one with Win 7 which I might actually hook up just so I have a damn video editor that works properly.
Unless I'm overlooking something, I think only Admins can see member IP addresses.

I've got a mac. I bought it a couple of years ago, and I'm still happy with it and am wondering why I didn't make the switch sooner. It's so much easier to use than the windows interfaces are becoming. My dad bought a new PC around the same time I got mine, and has had it completely rebuilt since then. And each time they update the windows and it's worse to use each time.

An hour?? Wow, I guess all of those hackers Mr Z hired can't quite keep it secure. I did notice that he was following me at one point. I'm not sure if that's something to marvel at or if it's all too common.

I decided to delete my FB profile a couple of weeks ago. I was planning to start anew. Yep... 8 years of posts down the panchan at the press of a button if they don't do the old deactivate until next login attempt. I got so sick of my account being compromised and my posts being edited that it just seemed like the next logical choice.

I was having some major OS problems over the last month, so I broke down and reformatted a couple of my laptops with Windows 7 Home Premium (x64). Buying an installation disc was the best money I've spent all year. It sucks that they don't pack them in with new PCs anymore.

I happen to have an older tower with Vista pre-installed, but I kinda fubared it one fateful night when I was attempting to install xp over it with the aid of a Debian OS CD. It seemed to have worked, but I didn't have an ethernet controller, and I tried messing with the RAID and a few other BIOS settings before I essentially bricked it. Judging by the clicks and flashes I probably could circumvent having someone else look at it by installing some new RAM.

I'm reluctantly using a Dell XPS running Win 10 as I post this. It's a memory hog for sure. I think Windows 10 isn't quite as bad as I previously thought, but they could do well to stop re-categorizing the menu options. I feel embarassed that it took me months to figure out how to open an adminstrative command prompt on it.

I find it very interesting that Zuckernerd was following you, this is probably a dumb question but did you make sure it was really him? And edited posts too? What exactly were you doing on FB to get this kind of attention? :LOL1:
I deleted my original FB account a few years back, the one I have now I've been using for about 6 or 7 years. I really don't like FB too much. I've realized that a lot of my irl friends suck.

I have 10, it's tolerable enough.

I kind of feel the same way about every new operating system until something less user friendly comes out. It really depends on how many different things we use our computers for. I imagine just about everyone primarily uses theirs as a makeshift media player and a portal to the net. It's a big reason why I feel the need to have a backup device.

I'll never get used to surfing the web on my phone, though. Too many prying eyes in public places.

I didn't check into it too deeply, but there was one of those verified checkmarks newt to his name. I was also following him from about 2010-2011. If it is/was really him, I figure he's just a normal guy beinhd the mass hysteria and gets bored like every other B-list celeb who ever responded to a Twitter post.

Well, as far as watch lists go... I'm probably on more of them than 75% of the people who have ever shared a forum with us. I wish I were joking, but I tend to not give two craps about surveillance after not seeing much change in my life after searching for things ranging from serial killers addresses, secret societies, atomic bomb ingredients, and of course, foreign porn sites.

I've been in behavioral health units for b.s. reasons, but I don't have a criminal record.

I totally agree with you about the IRL drama.

I'm still on 7 pre government backdoors.. Windows XP is still getting updates but are for mostly for bank machines so updates can crash your PC

I've often admired your attitude about what you choose to post on the net. If only I didn't live in the lad of the free with exceptions to the rules, I'd start a blog that would get me buried with cement shoes on or ground into hamburger meat at the local supermarket. lol

In other news... I started smoking again after almost 5 years of abstinence. I'm not proud of myself, but at the same time I have no immediate plans to quit again.

I smoke pipe tobacco, and I'm bouncing around between Drum and Captain Black.

That check-mark is enough to verify it's him.
I come across tons of crazy shit while I'm working so I'd hate to have anyone check out my browsing history and it's not even stuff I would normally look up but sometimes pages are repeated so it could look like I am looking this info up on purpose. But yeah I'm probably on someone's list somewhere for something I'm doing or have done on the net.

This may sound a little crazy, but I distinctly remember reading a makeshift blog that seemed to be just about you when you were using that old handle back in 2009ish.

Because you're female, I don't have to inform you of how desperate stalkers can be. We would never see more than the tip of the iceberg from our vantage points. Personally, I try not to take it too much to heart whenever I see someone staring at me or when I see pictures of myself that I haven't posted.

The book of love is buried beneath the sea of jealous.

I know all about it. My stalker finally died from ass cancer about 4 years ago and the info is not longer current. He actually started stalking me because I refused to allow his PI posting bullshit on my site and a site that I'd previously helped out with some tech stuff.

I am in a similar position, was smoking around a pack a day, sometimes more, stopped for a couple months, bought a couple packs... Bought a pack a week ago, sucked it down in 3-4 days. Probably 3-4 weeks before that I had another pack and was able to stretch it for like 10 days or so, maybe more. It’s definitely a love/hate thing. I should switch exclusively to cloves, makes it way harder to chainsmoke.

I have always customised my computers to suit my needs. But I found that the MAC system didn't require any more customisation than the Windows one did, in fact, it probably required less. The biggest issue I had was learning the mouse and keypad shortcuts that are different to what I was used to. I find the Windows computers my kids are using are far more complex to set up without letting Microsoft decide what and who has access to all their data.

Apple doesn't give you the choice, you might have the illusion of privacy, but even if you go through the trouble of finding all those privacy settings, eventually you are gonna click "allow X to know my location" or "connect to my appleID" at which point all your info is tied together in a neat little package.
