I'm happy to report that the water line was repaired and having the water shut off did NOT freeze my pipes.

As soon as spring hits I'm ripping the floors out and replacing pipes and putting new heat tape on all of them. I'm insulating the fuck out of these pipes.

We SHOULD have done this over the summer. Last winter this was NOT an issue. But it has been this winter. I'm pretty sure the heat tape isnt working and needs replacing.

We replaced some of the pipes and that costs us around 1500.....which wasn't too bad. BUT I've been watching people who have saved money replacing pipes themselves and it really looks like something I can do. And I'll just hire a plumber when I get to the bathroom. I want to completely change the shower and tub so I should hire a plumber for that. Take the 4k it would cost me to have a plumber simply replace my pipes and use that towards redoing the bathroom.

The only things I'm NOT comfortable doing ourselves is the electric rewiring and a wood burner. And I'm required to have a professional do those in order to be insured. No insurance company will insure you unless you can show certain things were done by liscenced pros.

Neglecting the pipes was a huge mistake lol. I am definately not gonna go through this again. I had to dump water into the back of the toilet to flush it. Such a fucking pain in the ass. For like a week and a half I had to do this. Oh and I had to boil water to wash dishes. I was boiling pots of water, dumping it in the sink and rinsing the plates with a squirt bottle. We dealt with this well and with a sense of humor but fuck ever going through THAT again.

There are people who would feel so blessed and lucky to even be able to do that much :/

Look at what boiling water for dishes did to my pot

20220215-102834.jpg

That's all deposits from well water. I'm soaking it with a vinegar solution but this may just be my "boil" pot from now on. I have tons of pots so it's not a big loss or anything and who knows when or if ill have to boil this damn water again. We use a Berkey water purifier for drinking water and its awesome.

I love not having to deal with ten 5 gallon jugs of water that we were using when we used a water delivery service. This purifier is awesome. Not so much when the pipes freeze though lol.

I'm friends with this awesome older lady who lives here and she was letting me fill water jugs at her house and use her shower and such. We paid her last water bill (the whole bill. I wasn't gonna sit and do math and she was my actual hero that week and a half) to thank her.

The buick is still dead in the driveway lol.

We are the kind of people who will drive the same cars until they finally shit.

My husband has been driving this gold colored 2007 Buick century since the week we started dating. Like ten years now. And it had some pretty high mileage when he bought it for 5k.

Well the head gasket blew and we decided it's not worth it to fix it. The damn thing died on the side of the expressway on Saturday morning as my husband attempted to drive it all the way back. Poor guy spent 5 hours on M59 waiting on the toe truck.

I've BEEN wanting a new (new to me) car (I want a truck) for a few years now but I wanted to get rid of my minivan for one.

So we are gonna just rent a car now until we find one to buy. He is driving his mothers car today until we get a rental. My mission today is junking the buick. I'm kinda sad about it, though.

And the water is shut off AGAIN because there is another leak in the main water line. So my pipes are probably going to freeze AGAIN.

It's always something lately. Lol.

Get a carburettor'd truck....

A 6 cylinder...

Early to mid 80's to 70's.

An F150 or Chevy similar.

The motor and transmission swaps are cheaper. Doesn't matter what they look like. They'll go and go...

My grandfather had a 1971 version called the Purple Passion.... it was purple because of the rust.

It is a really bad time to buy a new or used car as prices are up 50% due to the supply chain shortages.

LOL! @The Prowler is jealous! :D

Being a chauffeur would be degrading, @Joe.

I am just pointing out that you are posting a picture of a car, even giving the car a name, and you have never even driven the car.

You have weird fantasies, @Joe.

Be nice. I am sure driving as a chauffeur was a decent paying side gig when Joe was younger. Everyone has to work and having a side job which also gets tips must have been nice.

...yer German, is that right @The Prowler?

Not a Limo song, but it's my favorite German song:

...I'd never play it when anyone was in the car, but sometimes when I was comin back from a job with the wifi stereo on

The breakdown of the dissolution of the Austria Hungarian Empire is actually an interesting story.

Think about what being a chauffeur represents.

There is the wealthy man and his family, who cannot be bothered to drive themselves. It is below them to perform the manual labour of driving a car..

And there is the poor chauffeur, beneath the wealthy people. Opening and holding their door, like a peasant. Doing the driving that they refuse to do.

It is hypocritical for anyone who claims to be against classism to support this practice.

But sure, @Joe might have done it when he was young and dumb(er), not realizing that he was basically playing the role of a slave to his master.

Seems you could use a limo ride @The Prowler. You've so much pent up frustrations that I think ya need ta blow off steam eh?

Like crank up the volume of Black Nazareth or Black Sabbath with some young escort in the back and got all liquor ed up, Prowler!

I think we all need a limo ride or a ride in a private jet ta lift our spirits up.

Ya put those jobs down but they actually make people feel happy.

Like one reason those Truckers are rebeling is people in general are very unhappy these days & the Pandemic is taking its toll cuz we can't do the things we used to.

Yknow if Novavax, Medicago or some other treatments do a better job of getting the Pandemic under control than Pfizer/Moderna I'll get em.

@Joe the Liar lets it slip.

When he talks about frustration and needing to blow off steam, he is talking about himself.

He is just hoping other people feel the same way.

Misery loves company.

Hahaha!!!

You should talk to @Joe, Dovey.

Check out what he said a few days ago:

I bet there's a surplus of cars available @Biggie Smiles & deals ta be had. You could get yourself a nice big luxury limo at fire sale prices since the Pandemic killed that industry, eh. You oughta buy one just for fun. I've seen em sell for as little as $5,000 these days.

He seems to know where to get the deals.

Beware though. @Joe has been known to be unable to differentiate between reality and the dream world inside his defective brain.

I dont think a limo would be very practical for us and I'm not worried much about luxury.

I'll keep that in mind, though lol

Well, I confess @Dove, the only way I could ever afford a Mercedes luxury car or a top of the line Ford Navigator/GM Escalade is if I became a Limousine Driver again, did 5 trips a day driving VIPs like I used to for $200 a ride for 6 days a week for at least 1 year to pay the thing off after taking out a huge car loan.

And that's if I could acquire the connections to get those kinda rides on a continuous basis.

Otherwise I couldn't afford a car like that.

I'd have to work really hard to pay it off just to break even.

Hopefully at the end of that cyle, the car would still be in decent shape to be sold.

@Joe claims he used to make over $300K annually being a little slave bitch for "Very Important People".

Hahaha!!!

Was it worth it, @Joe?

Was being a little slave bitch for "Very Important People" worth losing your integrity?

Or did you already have no integrity to lose?

And now the over $300K a year slave bitches and moans about $2,000 a month for rent.

I could make this shit up.

No, I never claimed that at all.

But some owner operators might have.

Certainly the owners of the largest fleets pulled in that amount if they could afford to pay one driver $50-80,000 per year.

However, in this post-pandemic era, those days are gone.

The ones who's stuck with it are probably uber drivers by now.

The best years of that Industry are def behind it.

Dying Industry probably never comin back.

Them gravy train days are over @The Prowler.
