Absolutely.
By design most 'Murican citizens have literally no clue about modern Russia or any other country that isn't 'Murica, especially if they've been designated our "enemies".
They, also by design, don't really know any historical context for geopolitical issues. For them every conflict or problem happens in a vacuum with no relation to the past or various external forces at work in the present.
'Murica is the most heavily propagandized nation on the planet and it's not coming from the outside; our own government and media conglomerates are doing it to us.
