I've never had a desire to live in any other country. I have plenty that I would visit. But I've never wanted to move from America.
I dont think I would even in the scenario Caskur gave. Leaving my state for a man was messy and emotionally traumatic enough lol
And that was just a long car ride and few DMV trips lol
I always thought a good length of time to visit a foreign country would be two years.
Only two sorts of people want to leave their countries... very, very poor or the very, very rich... middle classes are quite happy to stay in their own country.
It's so much easier to pull out of poverty in America. Shit it's easier being poor in America than most other countries.
I don't think that's true at all anymore.
It definately is.
Probably much easier in some states than others though..... but I'd rather be poor by American standards than poor in Mexico or another country.
How do you know that? Have you ever been to, say, Portugal?
No, I havent. But I have read a lot about poverty in Portugal. One of my long time friends family came here from Portugal due to poverty.
Is it still one of most unequal countries in Europe?
You are doing well in Portugal because you did well in CA.
That's not an insult or an attack.....its just an observation.
Have you ever been to Los Angeles? There are 100,000 people living in the streets. They are everywhere, and they live like animals. There are another god knows how many living in very substandard housing, I mean like with tons of people sleeping in single rooms, etc. You don't see that in Portugal. Of course there's poverty here, but poor people aren't treated like garbage like they are in the US.
I DID say it depends on the state you live in.
I would not want to be poor or homeless in a democrat state.
I'm fine at my "income level" right now in a more red part of my blue state where its lower costs of living and not anywhere by the Metro area.
Poor people can be treated like garbage anywhere......again Lotus the bluer states are the worst for this AND the most classist.
I'm telling you this as someone who has been a dirt poor drug addict. I know the "underbelly" way more than I know the upper classers that cam afford to live in CA.
The homeless people in LA are from all over the country. They go to LA so they don't freeze to death. YOU compared poverty in Portugal to poverty in the US, as if the US is somehow better. But you don't know wtf you're talking about.
Yeah. From places like Detroit.
Which are all blue.
I'm not kidding. Next time you are in CA talk to some of them.
If I was gonna be a homeless drug addict, I would go to CA. And yes I've thought about this exact thing. It's easy to be a street junkie there.
Southern Florida had pill mills but those days are over and that flakka thing....yikes.
See this is partisan like you think it is. This valid criticism of policies that drive all this.
I would rather be homeless HERE than in Portugal. Homelessness in America is typically due to drug use. So.. if IM gonna be homeless, it's because I'm back on the horse and I'd prefer the streets of America.
Anytime you want help here you can get it. Isnt Portugal still the most unequal in terms of wealth? You are either doing good there or poor as fuck with no way out.....this is how I understand it based on people I know from there and reading about it.
