What is life really like for immigrants? Do you want to emigrate?

You lose family members and it's heart breaking but when you lose a child, there are no words to describe that pain... that is a whole other level.

I love America. I'd never move to any other country. They're all inferior. There's not a single country anywhere else that has our Bill of Rights which enables the government to kick down your door and toss you in the clink for any time they deem appropriate. I see the law bust in and arrest people in Australia and England and then their judges impose ridiculous sentences for the most petty things. Speaking out against those governments is a perilous thing to do!

Too many guns 'n gun deaths where you live, eh Lokmeer?!

A bit too violent 'n dangerous for my taste.

Otherwise if it wasn't for that America would be a good option, Lokmeer!

Only if you plan to move to the hood and join a gang, Joe.

Dont buy the hype lol

Actually Dovey, after having lived in the USA for about 5 years, I came to the conclusion that the easiest way for a foreigner 'to live there' is to buy something like a Hotel Condo, rent it out, collect revenue, pay the IRS so they can get their cut & occasionally stay there for a couple of weeks to a month per year.

That way a person gets the financial benefits from the place without the hassles and headaches that citizens/permanent residents have to endure. My experience living in America was that you can't really run away from the problems in your own country, and when you move to a new one, there are new ones in the country you move to. Plus it comes with a new set of obligations and allegiances the newcomer is expected to adopt.

So I think it's actually easier for someone like a Canadian to buy a rental property in the States & visit once in a while than immigrate. In the long run it may be far cheaper and profitable. That way they get the financial benefits while being a perennial/permanent tourist and enjoying the benefits.

America -a nice and fun place with a lotta attractions to enjoy and visit - except I don't think I'd wanna live there all the time. Seemed a tad on the expensive side too.

USA is one of those countries I wouldn't mind visiting once in a while.

There seem to be a lot of benefits to living next to it rather than living there.

Depends on the state, really.

A lot of Canadians(who have the money to do so) come here for dialysis or chemo so they dont have to wait a scary amount of time.

In Michigan we have Canadians who move here or have dual citizenship and work here.

people might think I am an idiot but I'd love to live in Cuba for a short while.

I don't have an American prejudice to the joint.

It's 1.30 am here... I'm tired BUT at 5 am, we're going to be whacked by storm front number 5 or 6... I can't remember. Do I stay up to maybe catch lightning or go to bed? Or just put a movie on and chill.

America is a consumer paradise. No place else comes close. But there is also a price to be paid for living in a giant mall instead of a country.

Thing is, a Canadian doesn't need to move their to enjoy the benefits of this consumer paradise.

Heck all we need is a $100 passport and just hop over the border and shop when we want.

My preferred method was getting a mailbox in some US border town, then driving down and picking them up when they arrive. One problem is that some deals can only be had/accessed by picking up from there as they don't always ship outside the US. So you have to go there to get them. i know a lot of non-US citizens from other countries wish they had this convenience.

...so it's not all bad living next to an economic giant like the US.

Plus I think it actually costs a person a lot more for the privilege of living there just to call yourself an American than having the convenience of just being a visitor like a Canadian.

He was born in Toronto.

So he was at least Canadian by birth.

Yeah I liked him too. I remember him playing alongside Tom Hanks as Tom Tuttle from Tacoma.

A huge price. The quality of life is so different in countries that haven't fallen into that consumerist sinkhole. So much better. But people who have bought into the bread and circuses propaganda have no idea what they are missing. It's really sad. They think 6 bedroom McMansions are something everyone wants. SMH

I've never had a desire to live in any other country. I have plenty that I would visit. But I've never wanted to move from America.

I dont think I would even in the scenario Caskur gave. Leaving my state for a man was messy and emotionally traumatic enough lol

And that was just a long car ride and few DMV trips lol

I always thought a good length of time to visit a foreign country would be two years.

Only two sorts of people want to leave their countries... very, very poor or the very, very rich... middle classes are quite happy to stay in their own country.

It's so much easier to pull out of poverty in America. Shit it's easier being poor in America than most other countries.

I don't think that's true at all anymore.

It definately is.

Probably much easier in some states than others though..... but I'd rather be poor by American standards than poor in Mexico or another country.

How do you know that? Have you ever been to, say, Portugal?

No, I havent. But I have read a lot about poverty in Portugal. One of my long time friends family came here from Portugal due to poverty.

Is it still one of most unequal countries in Europe?

You are doing well in Portugal because you did well in CA.

That's not an insult or an attack.....its just an observation.

Have you ever been to Los Angeles? There are 100,000 people living in the streets. They are everywhere, and they live like animals. There are another god knows how many living in very substandard housing, I mean like with tons of people sleeping in single rooms, etc. You don't see that in Portugal. Of course there's poverty here, but poor people aren't treated like garbage like they are in the US.

The VAST majority of bums in Cali are drug addicts and mentally ill people. I have RECENTLY seen it first hand. I purposely carted my family around to see it all. What amazes me most about that situation is that democrats and liberals continue to cry about it, yet they have 100% control over it.

I DID say it depends on the state you live in.

I would not want to be poor or homeless in a democrat state.

I'm fine at my "income level" right now in a more red part of my blue state where its lower costs of living and not anywhere by the Metro area.

Poor people can be treated like garbage anywhere......again Lotus the bluer states are the worst for this AND the most classist.

I'm telling you this as someone who has been a dirt poor drug addict. I know the "underbelly" way more than I know the upper classers that cam afford to live in CA.

Of course there's poverty here, but poor people aren't treated like garbage like they are in the US.

The homeless people in LA are from all over the country. They go to LA so they don't freeze to death. YOU compared poverty in Portugal to poverty in the US, as if the US is somehow better. But you don't know wtf you're talking about.

Hell no I doant want to immigrate and take a chance becoming a hateful old liberal hangdown?. F that

So, you think if you emigrated, you are so weak willed that your life philosophy would change? Grow a pair, Festering Boil.

I gotta pair like Brahma bull , don't worry about me.
I'd rather live here than any other place. Canada is a close second.
We must have something pretty good, people are literally dying to get here.

Millions are also leaving. And immigration numbers have been going down.
Yeah, because there's no border crisis. If bullshit was dynamite, dubya would have hired you to flatten the towers.

Los Angeles is run by democrats at all levels of local state and city government

Yep, leftists sure are fucking failures alright, something we can agree on

Los Angeles is overflowing with homeless people from red states, so don't give me that shit. Beides, I'm comparing the US to Portugal, not comparing red states and blue states, so stfu.

Here we go with the red state bullshit again

you interviewed every single one of them you dumb fuckhead?

Did I even mention the border? I didn't say people stopped trying to get in. I said numbers are lower. That's all. If stupidity were dynamite, everything within 100 yeards of you would be in smithereens.
