Yeah, but you couldn't install/runs programs on it anyway. It was only a thin client for accessing web-based services but, especially in the beginning, it was simultaneously soo much more for the people using them. It had a genuine sense of community..

...and dialup. Don't forget that part. 28.8 or 33.6kbs? But so was everyone else at that time so it wasn't that big a deal until broadband went mainstream.
