You know, it's not kindness, really. It's a sense that this is the cycle of life, and I want to honor it in people I care about. She has been nothing but kind to me over the years, and I care about her, so what else would I do?

It's odd. I think about this often. My father, who was the kindest man in the world, died of a stroke, alone, suddenly, while his wife was at the grocery store. My mother, who was a malignant narcissist, died surrounded by people, holding her hand, singing to her. What a world.
