The best I can deduce is that his father insisted on him learning the family business from the ground up through an apprenticeship in order to take over the family business but he was lazy, a bit dumb, and his sisters could fix shit better than him, so they paid him a stipend to "not touch up anything ever again".... which obviously went pear-shaped in Costa Rica, which was also why he had to flee In the dead of night.

Have you examined the various pics of his shit yacht? No real tradesman would let that sort of damage remain unless they were clueless with their hands.

I see you have put many of the clues together as well. The years of boasts about the good surfing by his luxury beachside Costa Rican Compound. The bromeliads in the compound garden under which Diego's poor brother Armando lies in his eternal rest. Years of poasts and boasts and never a word about work or a career.

The final bit that allowed me to complete the puzzle was the $17k Persian rug. It is a nice rug even if he did overpay by about 5 to 7K. I know a bit about rugs. But a Trust Fund Boy just points and says 'I want that' and has his people take care of the details. Slopey does have good taste in rugs, fine pottery, bromeliads and cacti. That kind of taste would be exceeding rare in some Union schmuck electrician "tradesman" working the job sites.

Oh, and I like Slopey's boat. The Misa I think he calls her. I'd go sailing with Slopey.
