I do a Southern meal! Fried pork chops, black eyed peas, and greens.

Black eyed peas are considered lucky here.

I always heard that, but didnt know why til last year.

Its cause when the Yankees came down, and burned all the crops, and took or killed all the livestock, they left the black eyed peas thinking they were only fit for animals. Thus the Southerners had something to eat, and felt lucky.
