Buying a Pool Table

You have got to be trolling, Senile @Joe

But somehow, I believe you.
Well I'll post pics of my camera/video rig sometime if you like Lex @The Prowler . so far it's cost me over $6,000 cdn or $4200 US . by the time In done putting it together maybe $8 Grand Canadian or $6000 USD? Video isn't cheap to get into Prowler. Likewise a good professional billiards table for anyone aspiring to be a pro must be very expensive

So....I'd like to make some money do a few gigs with it to recoup the costs. Otherwise itll end up being one helluva expensive 'hobby'. Actually im starting to regret it. But....I'll give er a go see if its possible ta make a buck from it.

Mind you...the total cost of the rig is actually lower than some colletibles Ive purchased which I admit were extremely foolish buys. Good thing I can resell or get rid of them. Probably end up buying some land instead.

I forgot to give an update.

The carpet stretching was a success.

The baseboards are back on.

I am going to give the carpet a cleaning in that area tomorrow. We have a carpet cleaner that works well. Then we are ready for the installation of the pool table.

I have done this before.

That is what X said.

Hard flooring kinda feels cold to me, though. I mean literally, but also it just doesn't feel comfortable...that home-sweet-home feeling...I am not sure how to describe it.

Especially in a basement. And especially in the middle of winter where I live.

We would have to get a bunch of area rugs and animal skin rugs and then....they would all get disgusting and filthy....right?
It feels gross to walk on other peoples carpeting in stocking feet, being a flooring installer I’ve seen what’s under those carpets that you can’t see from the top, the adhesives break down and deteriorate turning to a fine dust that gets poofed into the air with each step, you breathing it all in unbeknownst, many customers have quipped how much better their asthma is or cleaner the air feels after getting the carpet removed for laminate or wood flooring
Or perhaps your doggo rubs his ass on the carpet creating floating shit molecules

Dude...WAKE UP !
. 15K Persian rug under the table and you're set.

Winter?....get a wood burner.

How come you took the baseboards off?? How much did you pay? I used to do the baseboard taking off to fool the customer ha ha ha we had to justify the crazy amount we’d charge for the restretch because in all honesty it takes about 20 minutes to stretch a room so we’d need to make it take a few hours so we’d piss around with gimmickry truth is as long as the tack strip is not UNDER baseboard it doesn’t need to come off

People with pets have the nastiest carpets, it can look all nice and clean but what lurks underneath YUCKkk the stains and powdered piss granules that float in the air

When we had carpets I had the luxury of changing them at least once a year for many years because it was basically free

I grew up in a house that had carpet in every room including the kitchen and bathroom.

Thats a generational thing. My grandma raised me, and her generation had carpet in every room lol.

I much prefer to have wood or laminate and rugs. Ive caught my dog dragging his asshole across the carpet and im steam cleaning 4 times a month and its ridiculous.

I’d just rip it out no way I’m living with residual dog shit skids that you THINK you steam cleaned when in fact all you did was destroy the adhesives holding the carpet together and melt the dog skid deeper into the fibres eventually settling into the backing of the carpet

I could afford to buy your pool table Lex @The Prowler .

But unless I use that table for professional purposes to make a living I'd consider it just an expensive decoration or hood ornament Prowler.

But it's your money or that of your wife's so i suppose you are entitled to blow your money the way you want

I love pool/snooker. However, even if I was as filthy rich as Prowler apparently is, would I splash the cash on a table? Dunno, probs not.

The problem is with purchases like this, the novelty soon wears off and the item usually ends up being abandoned and left to gather dust. It's a similar deal with home gyms, which from what I've witnessed over the years, inevitably end up being used to dry clothes on after the initial excitement of the purchase fades.

I have a vintage computer I bought years ago like that, the Silicon Graphics O2:

o2-diagram-front.gif

It was the same model that was used to create the dinosaurs in the 1st Jurassic Park movie. Who knows? Maybe it came from that studio.

I think whdn it was 1st released it was at least 10,000 GBP.

I never spent that much for it tho. Cost me 200 USD after the company folded & ceased production. So after that they were being sold at firesale prices. Apparently like the Amiga it's got wuite a following in the UK & Europe @Aryan Victory

Makes a nice decoration but I really should fire it up sometime make it useful again. currently it's gathering dust

Speaking of Amigas, my very first compooooter. :YaY:

They still sell for a lot if they are working condition.

And they still have several Amiga Stores & resellers in the UK and Europe.

The Amiga computers have better resale value than Silicon Graphics pc's

Amigas were great, I used to have a shit ton of titles on floppy disk, and pirating games was easy as fuck back then.

The system used to crash a hell of a lot though, which was annoying.

How come you took the baseboards off??

Because they are over the edge of the carpet...tight.

The ceiling was done first.

Then the carpet.

Then I did the walls and installed the baseboard tight to the carpet..

The tack strip is just outside the baseboard, but the baseboard is too tight to get to the edge of the carpet to pull it up.

It might be my fault, the way I installed the baseboards. But it was not really a big deal.

How much did you pay?

$21 for the one day tool rental.

it takes about 20 minutes to stretch a room

Not this room.

In fact, I think it is impossible to do properly without spending a whole bunch of time because of the poles.

Take a look:

P1010198.jpg

See the pole/post in the middle of the room? It is load bearing...it is on the I-beam.

There is another one just out of the picture at about 4 o'clock...you can see by the ceiling where the I-beam goes.

Because the carpet is cut right at those posts, it cannot be moved or the holes would be exposed. So everything has to be stretched away from the posts. Now what will happen when you stretch away from a post towards the other post?

The slack/wrinkle has nowhere to go. So I guess you would have to cut the carpet to cut the wrinkle out and then tape it together or whatever you do and to get that to look good...? Fuck that.

The lucky thing is that the wrinkles were only at the far end of that picture, past the pole. So we only stretched that area. Just that area is about 250 square feet, so the size of a pretty big room.

I never said I was filthy rich.

I have rich friends and family.

My sister? She is rich.

Me? I am comfortable.

We are well-aware of this and have considered it.

But we both like pool. And we entertain occasionally and most people we know like pool.

Time will tell if we get good use out of it.

We have some equipment that we have used for probably thousands of hours and some that we used...not enough.

It is tough to know what you will like until you have it.

FYI, we have a treadmill for sale. Cheap!!!

Sure when you havent bought 8 new appliances, a new roof, a new chimney, a new HVAC, a new sump pump system and a water line repair under the basement floor and a new car in the span of two years

You install carpet and flooring, so you could do that yourself. Those of us who hire people like you need to prioritize properly and carpet just isnt as important as a ROOF.

20 minutes .. but you’d need to remove the furniture, you just gotta know how to stretch it

Shit is tangible a fart wafts and disappears… the shit particles float around with everything else that footsteps stir up in carpeting

Which is why proper care is important.

Daily vacuuming with a HEPA filtered vacuum. No shoes inside. Clean HVAC filters. Immediate spot cleaning with enzymatic cleaners and every 3 months I use a cleaner and hot water extraction. A good full room air purifier helps too.

I hate carpet. I cant wait to be rid of it. Because taking care of it to PREVENT the issues you are talking about is tedious. Its a massive pain in the ass. But as long as people are willing to put in the proper care its fine.

Most people dont because they work, they are tired and they slip up on it. Its why they get rid of it. I think its one of the worst inventions ever. But some people gotta have it.
