potato is better... when I eat pasta or rice or bread my blood sugar meter goes up.... when I eat potato, it doesn't move. Potato is maligned but it doesnt deserve to be... fries yes but potato is 80% water.

Potato is gluten free, like rice, it will pass through you quicker and so absorb fewer sugars which is why people on these diets fart a lot more.

I just had chicken and cauliflower Vindaloo, I can cook and understand nutrition so have always been very healthy.

- Box of Bisquit.
- 2 Brown sugar packets from Starbuxs.
- 2 Honey packets from KFC.
- 2 scoops mayonnaise to hold it all together.
- 1 piece toast.

Bake it for 30 mins and then FREEZE IT.
Great Value for $3.

You gotta do what you gotta do, I guess

There's all these MSM articles and stories being recently broadcasted on Australian press about the cost of living crunch and how families of four (2 adults and 2 kids) who once spent 250-300 bucks AUD per week to feed themselves are now spending over 400 bucks AUD and the parents are skipping meals or eating porridge for dinner so their kids get animal products.

I was like WTF!!!!!!!!@????!!!!!!!

We operate as a family of three on 150-200 bucks per WEEK for food....maybe that's gone up 30 bucks over the last few years.

When you look into it though, you get the distinct impression that although they say they're no longer buying processed stuff or ready made items, they still ARE. People aren't prepared to cook for themselves or simply don't know the basics anymore... and they don't understand value for money.... which the supermarkets here actively try to stifle.

I keep my cooking simple, but tasty

I don't mind eating mostly the same stuff, but as long as the ingredients are good, you can never go wrong

When I came to Australia in the mid 90's, lamb shanks were nearly classified as dog bones and minced beef (hamburger) no matter the % of fat content was still cheap and without bone fragments..... that ship sailed years ago. Lamb shanks got popular in bistro meals and shot up in huge price.... like artificially high price, and minced beef of any good quality will bankrupt you....if you regularly buy it.

I wait for roasts to go on special...15-20% off from the already inflated prices.... and when they make the weight too high to easily sell to weekly shoppers on a shoestring budget, then start discount slashing 20-50% off on the "Best Before Date" either in the early morning or late at night just before closing, I'll scoop up 1-2 big roasts and cook them in various ways, then freeze or refrigerate the rest. Sure, I'll blow my weekly budget.... but my weekly budget isn't set in stone. It's cumulative. One week I can spend 500 bucks, then spend 50-100 bucks per week for numerous weeks after that.

If I can't find any value for money for awhile... we'll eat out of the deep freezer and pantries for however weeks or months we need to. We have the grains, the beans, the meats, the spices, the veggies...

You don't get a lot of the discounted stuff here, usually they go to restaurants, exception of fruit, but these days I almost don't eat fruit or veggies from markets

5 kilos of rice will last me for 5 weeks or so. I have some pasta, but I love rice LOL

Sweet potatoes, peppers, collars greens, onions, it's all good. I don't like salads much

And meat is still an affordable luxury here, for most people here in Brazoo actually, even those living on low income. We suck in a LOT of aspects, but Brazilians easily eat among the best in the world, considering how little we pay

My goal at any time is to keep at least one year of food and cash on hand, and the tools, seeds, and related things to keep growing when money is worth less than before.... or I have to trade some of that stuff for things we really need. I'm big on heirloom seeds and liquid concentrate... anything that can last for years upon years.

Fuck toilet paper... I never understood the Aussie paranoia for TP.

Part preparatory work... mostly quartermaster work. I might have been a representative of the East Indian Trading Company in previous lives..... minus the disease blankets.
