I keep trying to tell people this isn't a democracy and if it ever was it died a long time ago.
Thanks to technological advancements including facilitating people all over the world communicating directly with each other the only card our corrupt authoritarian "leaders" have left to play is narrative control.
It's why they spy on us, and censor us, and try to limit the information we can access.
If they lose control of the narrative but refuse to give up power they *will* resort to naked violent oppression and after that they won't be able to use anything else. We will have crossed that Rubicon into an openly repressive dystopian hellscape.
