People are desiring a spiritual experience and existence but they want THEMSELVES at the center.
Am I saying this right? Lol. Like the occult self help, manifest prosperity, anything you do is okay because you wers in a "growth" period and it was "part of your journey". If you leave your spouse and break up your family when there was no conflict ir abuse or infidelity .....its okay because you "grew past" that relationship.
They generally (and I'm like this as well btw....this is a human thing) dont want to look OUTSIDE themselves towards any higher power or Being to which we are accountable. To see how our decisions and actions harmed others. We dont exist in vacuums. We are part of families. Part of communities. Our thoughts and actions matter.
Instead, we want to make our actions excusable and "spiritual". But we make others suffer for our own selfish gain. None of us like to accept that....we give ourselves passes and we all but crucify others.
Like breaking up a family. Are we entitled to drag others through a harder life and inflict pain on them so we can move along on journey? No.
But that's the type of religion humans want because its makes them feel better. Temporarily though. They put themselves at the center and other end up becoming props in our journey.
When you look to God....and know Him for who He is according to the information given to us in the natural world and scripture....God is at the center. Not us. And we are now confronted by our own sin. And for those who follow God(to the genuine best of human ability and rely on Him for the rest).....that right there is the true liberation. Knowing we are broken and sinful but have hope and reason to turn from it, knowing all we have done was already paid for.
That conviction a believer has is called a "godly sorrow unto repentance". You just trust it's done and paid for and keep on walking.
When believers point out sins, it's not condemnation. It's a plea for the one in sin to turn from and trust in God. It's very freeing and healing to know it's not OUR battle....its Gods battle. And God isnt ever gonna lose what is His.
I would say choosing sin over God and all He gives is like choosing to live in a sewagey swamp ditch in a hut over a palace in paradise.
The message really kicks that hornets nest. No one really wants to see themselves as a bad guy. As a selfish, lying, hypocritical, theiving and self focused person. But that's indeed what we all are.
....to varying levels of course. But we all fall short.
That's why people get angry. I believe it's because they know this God is real so they rage about it and attack it. We all know inside ourselves there is something wrong and we carry shame and regrets. Even the best of us are bad. Jesus brought the cure for our messed up humanity. People have A LOT of resentment for the message of the gospel.
When I see people soft towards it....I see people who will likely see Gods kingdom. Just based on how i see scripture apply to the world around me.
I think that topic is best addressed by the words of Paul in first Corinthians
"For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.
19 For it is written: "I will destroy the wisdom of the wise; the intelligence of the intelligent I will frustrate."
20 Where is the wise man? Where is the scholar? Where is the philosopher of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world?
21 For since in the wisdom of God the world through its wisdom did not know him, God was pleased through the foolishness of what was preached to save those who believe.
22 Jews demand miraculous signs and Greeks look for wisdom,
23 but we preach Christ crucified: a stumbling block to Jews and foolishness to Gentiles,
24 but to those whom God has called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God"
