Ramen, butter sandwiches, peanut butter, pancakes, grilled cheese, mac n cheese, soup, grits. Not eggs anymore, back when they where a couple dollars a dozen could get you good mileage.

All that food is expensive in the long run. Mostly carbs, you get hungry quick because your body still needs actual nutrition, protein and healthy fats.

Fuck, that’s a nice list of healthy groceries whose struggling if they can afford all that, my struggle was real noodles and ketchup, mayo sandwiches… fruit from the trees

But you can afford booze and weed?

Strange choices.

Dude, I lived on Old Mill oatmeal for a few years. I am not complaining. And I did get a lot of nutrition at Sunday dinners at my parents' house.

But this just goes to show you how out-of-touch some people are...they do not know real struggle.

eta: to make this more affordable or if you can't buy fresh tomatillos, you can buy canned tomatillo salsa

Mostly Mexican from when I was a poor kid growing up.

First post will be a list of common inexpensive ingredients. You can make a lot of inexpensive meals with this list.

Eggs
hot dogs
chorizo
potatoes
pinto beans (or beans of your choice) - canned whole and refry them yourself or eat whole
corn tortillas
green and/or red salsas
fideo/vermicelli noodles (mexican stores have them for under $1/packet)
conchitas (shells pasta, also under $1)
bell pepper
Mexican grey squash
carrots
white and red onion
tomato
cilantro
green onion
tomato sauce
jalapeno or serrano peppers
rice
ground beef
inexpensive pork cuts
inexpensive beef cuts
chicken (buy thighs or drumsticks)
oats
cinnamon stick
garlic powder, onion powder, cumin, Knorr chicken flavor bullion

eta:
tomatillos
queso fresco
hominy
corn (I prefer fresh or frozen)

Recipes to follow in subsequent posts.
Yes. Capitalism can produce a variety of excellent foods (I support Kennedy and his efforts) at low cost. By the way, if you can afford hot dogs you can usually afford chicken breasts, although hot dogs can be a fun food. Keep in mind that these foods require a personal touch unlike many of the overly processed, costlier foods.
