If I own property and we have a lease agreement that says you pay me $XXX/mo to stay there and you dont pay, you should GTFO or go to jail. If I allow you to squat without rent or a contract and I decide on a whim to boot you, you should GTFO immediately or go to jail.

Apparently only very wealthy corporate elites rent out property.

I want to know what alternate universe these people live in. Because it's not reality.

I really hope people get pissed and realize what bills and policies are being enacted that are responsible and see for themselves how the people who claim to be "for" them dont even know who they are.

There has to be some horrible fucked up end game to stopping landlords from collecting rent, but still keeping them responsible for the expenses.

This is destroying a lot of peoples lives. So did the lock downs and the riots.

How can anyone support this?

Leftist all like to pretend that landlords are all giant corporations with endlessly deep pockets but the reality is 56% of landlords are small family run businesses mostly with three or less units. Many of them are elderly and relying upon the rental income to pay for their retirement. Democrats are fucking them over hard.

I saw a lot of that reading twitter. These left wingers going off about how mom and pop landlords are a "myth".

Which is such a blatant fucking lie it seems incredible even they would claim it. The entire BLM narrative is a lie and all one has to do is look at facts and data.

But this is such an obviously lie you would have to be psychotic to think this.

A lot of the elderly land lords are doing this as their retirement.

I guess completely destroying the lives of as many Americans as possible is what the left wants.....while denying and ignoring they are doing it.

It's going to cause foreclosures, wreck peoples lives and these complete fucking idiots not paying their rent are gonna get booted out anyway. And it will harder to find another place because of this.

Is this how socailism/communism is to be forced on us? Destroy everyones ability to support themselves and push them into irreversible poverty?

Prove it.

Prove what? That a shit ton of rental properties are owned by regular people?

I have ALWAYS rented from regular ass individuals. I've never once rented from any sort of business or corp.....and that wasnt even intentional.

Every house for rent is owned by someone who still has to pay the mortgage and taxes.

How could you even argue this?

So while the lives of regular people and retirement destroyed for elderly land lords you guys are just going to completely deny its happening because you have some insane idea that every landlord is a millionaire corporation? That's the plan here?
Yep! My son in Florida is being advised by a family friend down there to start buying rentals. They themselves are doing it. Not everyone wants to stay in one place and renting is a great for them. BUT YA GOTTA PAY THE FUKIN RENT!!! lotusterd just wants to destroy America.

So around half of all renters rent from mom and pop operations but more than half of all operations are mom and pop landlord operations. The really big rental operations are corporate but the corporate places are far less numerous.

The worst part is how people who support these shitty moves by government refuse to acknowledge the damage its directly doing.

So they'll support shit that is directly harming people, completely deny the harm. Like with the gender idenity laws. They'll stay completely delusional about how its impact people in reality and just CLING to the fantasy narrative and claim they are fight for the people while fighting against the people.

Progressives are a plague. If they were willing to actually look at what's happening and try to work WITH the people that would different but these people will destroy the country while screaming about right wing talking points.

There isnt one.

She can’t… and mostly because her argument has ZERO to do with this thread topic.

The original landlord died, which means the property was listed in the probate, which was obviously opened and then transferred to the heirs after all creditor claims were paid since they were able to serve eviction papers.

Still trying to figure out what it’s deluded opinion of the “BLM narrative” has to do with this topic of longterm landlord probate issues. She is clearly trying to hijack all of your threads to serve her own close minded narrative of left v right.

I wonder how much the owner's life would be affected if they just let the guy stay till he dies.

The landlord is an irresponsible DICK. This is like taking an old dog you’ve had since it was a puppy to the pound to die. #SMH

Apparently, he had been trying for years to get the squatter out yet the squatter played this game of always trying to dodge the server and then claiming he had not been properly served. Also there was an issue where the land originally was owned by the grandfather of the family who was sick in a nursing home for a long period. After he died the heirs tried to straighten things out but had disagreements among themselves.

It does sound like the current owner is a bit of a dick though. After the squatter got legally evicted "someone" (no doubt the owner) burned down the illegal cabin. Though it is legal to burn your own property and I can see why he'd want to get rid of an attractive nuisance and give the squatter fewer reasons to come back. The owner had previously discussed leasing the land to the squatter but there were legal liabilities which stopped that; namely legally he would then be the landlord and the city was already suing him because the squatter cabin was not permitted and not up to code.

Apparently? Factually, this family has owned the property since 1966 and has no plans to develop it. They didn't even know the guy was there. They have only been trying to remove the guy since someone brought it to their attention. Otherwise, they never would have known.

Technically, they need him to sign a new lease then to be on the property. Maybe he refused?

Then they will complain corporations are too powerful and that some how capitalism is to blame. Even though socialist leftists caused it. It is the same with their lockdowns where they kept the big corporate stores open but forced all the mom and pop stores to close.

Leftist big government caused these problems not "capitalism".

@LotusBud ~ this might have something to do with it:

Leases ~
Most tenants in New Hampshire do not have written leases. For these tenants, the landlord can request a rent increase at any time. There is also no law limiting the amount of the increase that the landlord can request.

Even here in California it is usual to have a one or two year written lease but after the lease expires it automatically converts to a month to month lease based upon the previous leases terms minus the lease period. Once it is months to month the terms can be changed at any time by the landlord provided 30 days advanced written notice is given.

I’m not sure how left v right even applies here. Rent increases vary from state to state. Liberal cities have a 10% cap on yearly increase and require 90 day notice.

NH doesn’t and seems to be a red state.

We were specifically talking about the eviction moratorium which, yes, is very much a one sided leftist policy.

NH has very specific laws about the condition of the dwelling, so there goes the mom & pop landlord assumption.

The heirs realized the liability this cabin imposed on their earnings/assets. There is your motive to burn the cabin down. The now deceased “mom & pop” were obviously slumlords.

We have a problem in Vancouver with offshore Chinese and others buying up all the real estate & jacking up the prices.
There's a difference between living on properties for comfort and survival & just plain hoarding.
We have a hoarding problem in Vancouver which is not unlike a monopoly.
Offhosre buyers using family members a shill buyers making minmum wage to purchase million dollar homes.
Lots of money laundering too even US newspapers have pointed out. such as the NYT.

If you saw the kind of rents people, and especially familes pay here you'd think we were insane.
$2,000 for 1 BR apartment. $1,000 or more for a 'room' or shared accommodation.
Our rents are like New York or San Francisco.

I think there is a point where governmnets have to intervene to assist low income familes to create affordable housing.

Can't just have city full of 1%ers. Otherwise, who's gonna work at Starbuck's, clean our streets, work as domestics?

Yeah, they have families to support too and the city needs them just to function.

There is a common denominator here you know.

What do all these places you listed have in common, Joe?

Its gonna get worse when all the working/middle class landlords have to sell or get foreclosed on, yeah?

I got out of all this mess in time it seems. I dont have to worry about any of it.

And it's only gonna get worse with leaders like Biden, Boris Johnson, Jusitin Trudeau promising refugee status/safe havens for Hong Kong citizens.

I don't wanna be racist, but wherever Chinese go, they hoard our land and makes it less or unaffordable for people living there. It's even a problem in China and Taiwan, where their politicians have to put their foot down on their own Chinese citizens:

If we dont put safeguard in place to prevent rampant land hoarding and speculation by them, we could all end up like Hong Kong, where 5 or 10 people ending up sharing a micro apartment.

Especially in a time of Pandemics, we can't afford to have people crowded into homes or living on the streets anymore.

So Western governmnets have to put the brakes on their activities.

Places like the UAE dont' even allow foreigners to own land. If they don't, why should we?

Well it's happening, Joe.

Wave goodbye to the working and middle class. The fascist authoritarian take over is well underway.

We have had the chinese buying property under the radar here for years now....no one talks about it. Lots of political theater there to distract people.

And ain't none of these prog fucks gonna listen. They are way to busy trying to overthrow some character of Bill and Tammy Baker they have in their heads about who runs the country so every attack on regular people is a victory in their delusional class war. They'll be just as fucked as everyone else.....only the rest of us will likely just eat them.

You remain an incredibly ignorant and stupid person who doesn't have a clue. Maybe that is why you lived a life of a government parasite and had to flee to an under developed southern European country? That also explains why you think renters not paying rent is some how viable for homeowners who still have to pay maintenance and property taxes.

At this point, anyone who knows basic economics knows you are an economically illiterate moron.

The Chinese are buying all the commercial real estate in Seattle.

And it's only gonna get worse with leaders like Biden, Boris Johnson, Jusitin Trudeau promising refugee status/safe havens for Hong Kong citizens.

I don't wanna be racist, but whereve Chinese go, they hoard our land and makes it less or unaffordable for people living there. It's even a problem in China and Taiwan, where their politicians have to put their foot down on ltheir own citizens:

If we dont put safeguard in place to prevent rampant land hoarding and speculation by them, we could all end up like Hong Kong, were 5 or 10 people ending up sharing an apartment.

Especially in a time of Pandemics, we can't afford to have people crowded into homes or living on the streets anymore.

So Western governmnets have to put the brakes on their activities.

Places like the UAE dont' even allow foreigners to own land. If they don't, why should we?

I completely agree with you. But having a totalitarianism racist come in to destroy any chance we stood at AFFORDABLE public healthcare did more damage than anyone on the right will ever admit. Trump was a pawn designed to protect the Republicans who own all the big insurance that write the healthcare policies.

The fact of the matter is that everyone needs health and dental insurance or no one is going to be able to retire and grown old peacefully. You get old and need to go to the hospital and they will own your house if that’s all you have.

People need to realize that economy and law is a bigger part of the overall political agenda they are trying oh so desperately to give the illusion of mastering.

This forced eviction in the OP is the perfect example. The heirs probably had to fight with Medicare after this landlord died and then were advised by the probate attorney of the liability this cabin imposed. It’s sucks… but so does our economy.

Wait... You think everyone in the insurance industry or medical industry is a Republican? Yeah, we're going to need a fact check on that b.s.. Also on the lie that there was anything "racist" about the last Republican administration.

I’m not talking about welfare or government funded. I’m talking about the insurance that we actually want and benefit from having through our employers.

@Oerdin

Private insurance is a 50% purely profit industry. Please point out the owners of these agencies that are left?
