I have it on salad.
But is is good substitute for Russian dressing when making a Reuben sandwich.
Around here (and I believe much of North America), Thousand Island dressing has replaced Russian dressing.
To further complicate things, Kraft (a Canadian food company) produces a salad dressing that they call Russian, but it is very different than Russian dressing that is usually known as Russian dressing.
I used to get Reuben sandwiches at restaurants and they would use Thousand Island dressing. That is what I thought was the correct condiment. They when I read recipes, I saw a lot mentioned "Russian dressing", so I thought it meant the kind I was used to from Kraft. It is awesome, but very different than Thousand Island dressing. Upon further investigation when I searched for recipes for Russian dressing, I saw that they closely resembled Thousand Island dressing, not Kraft Russian dressing.
I looked up Marie Rose sauce and it seems a lot like Thousand Island dressing, but it is missing some key ingredients like paprika and sweet relish.
