No smallie around here. How do they fight compared to big mouth? We have a ton of Florida strain, in fact, our area holds many big mouth records.

Yes - I wanted to hear about your Largemouth Bass fishing since I know about the Florida Black Bass in SoCal - like 20+ lbers and all.

Smallmouth are, by most accounts, pound for pound the hardest fighting freshwater fish. Masters of aerobatic escape. I can't tell you how often I get a hard puller and then am amazed that it's a pounder or lb en a half. Often they are abundant in rocky steep sided deep reservoirs, and streams/rivers, rather than the muddy bottom, heavy vegetation and various cover waters where LBs thrive. Tactics can be quite different. The only wilder fighters, I am told, are Steelhead.

Where I am in the NE, my PB LM is 7' 11, SM - 4' 3

PS: @Oerdin - what gear do you use fishin LB? Techniques etc.

For the last five years I have only gone 2-3 times per year fresh water and all at local reservoirs or piers on the reservoir. I have never caught a trophy bass though I have fished on some of the reservoirs which have produced trophy bass. The largest bass I have caught was only in the 8lb range with most being in the 2-5 lb range. Other than some new line and basic stuff like replacement hooks all I use are the contents of my old tackle box which I started filling when I was a kid in the 1980's. Sometimes I will use a lure but mostly it is a plastic worm with a hook on it when I am looking for bass. When I am not looking specifically for bass (which is most of the time), I use a treble hook and live bait off the bottom just to see what I can catch.

Most of the reservoirs around here are stocked so you get a good variety just sitting there within bait. I pretty much always catch and release with freshwater these days. The last time I did any fishing was in December when I went hoop netting for lobster for around four and half hours at a local pier. All I caught were two smalls.

..and another pair I think will be super swell also.
Polarized lenses, anti glare coatings etc - can't wait to get under the water with them.
. Check out all them aquatic wild lifes.

.Then - and lastly - I opted for the Simms wading boots with felt soles.
