I grew up out here, and unfortunately have spent a great deal of time on forums. There's going to come a time where I hang up the gloves, and saunter off into the sunset. When that happens I have plans.

My plan is to investigate how financially draining it is to run an online forum. My dream has always been to own a forum, it's just never been the right time. I tended an offer to DKG for TBC, but was rebuffed. I offered to buy out 50% of BF, but Bastard Factory said, hell no!

That leaves one option. To do it myself. I'm wondering if a $50K investment would be enough for the servers and add ons for a year? Anyone know? Additionally, I'd like to have games, and a place for social media. Does anyone have an interest in joining me for a grass roots forum? I'll need mods, admin's, and tech support.

I was actually thinking you'd be an administrator, that way you're not confined to the flame area, and can put out fires in other places.

I also had an idea of just having an all Spanish sub forum, and maybe having Flea try and get that going. Of course I'd approach Garraty to offer an admin spot, same with Freud.

The rest is played by ear.

How much $$$ to keep it going for a year, though?

@The Cuntess Hey, serious question. When you owned SG, what were your monthly operating costs? Of course don't give me what you paid, but give me a ballpark figure. Thanks!

Started at 45.00 a month. Then Biggie transferred it to Jaguar and it was 14.00.

I know where the database for Valhalla is. You could resurrect that. I'd be happy to do absolutely nothing as an Admin, just like in the good old days.

It’s really not expensive

Motherfucker Bastard Factory in his Save The Children drama posts, makes it sound like he's taking out a second mortgage on his house and eating bologna sandwiches because of us.

That's it?

Why am I always seeing forum owners bitching about server costs then?

Weird.

If I had to guess it's because certain mods and add-ons are money-makers for their developers and cost varying amounts in subscription fees. The more bells and whistles (arcades, portals, advanced features, etc.) the more you can expect to pay over and above the simple hosting/registration services.

Seeing Martini and Flynn talking about opening a forum is like seeing two hobos talking about opening a restaurant.

Hey RancidPerv-O, would you like to post anything other retarded comments? Or is smacking you in the snout with your own cock enough?

Respectfully decline.

If I ever feel like being neck deep in a panel again I'll just start a forum myself. For me the best part was always making/modifying themes anyway, not the actual herding cats aspects of forum administration. That stuff I don't miss one little bit.

I thought we were going to work on this together? :Pissed2:

Right. But what does it cost for a year with all those bells and whistles?

Why would you even need me?
You've got... Poofer. :LOL3:

OMG...!

You guys need to grow the fuck up.

EDIT: Garraty, I would need you for some of the coding issues, I can't code for shit, I can barely change my font color. You know on a technical scale the ins and outs of these forums, and different renditions of them through the years. You are invaluable, and I'd love to work with you on this when time is right.
