Does anyone still troll anymore? I'm talking about the old fashioned way.

I got banned from a house sitting forum that I joined when I listed my house on the site so we can get free labor when we travel, which is quite often nowadays.

I had no plans to bother anyone, I was polite, factual and replied to various posts to the best of my ability to help other homeowners and sitters with pet and house sitting questions.

I lasted less than a week and was banned with no explanation at all. Old habits die hard, I'm sure I wrote something snarky but it couldn't have been THAT bad and an explanation would have been nice.

Now it's revenge time. Using my extensive knowledge of dog e-collars and the correct way to use them plus knowledge of how the pet sitting website operates and how people think, created fodder for a good trolling topic. Apparently, I've already brought one member close to tears and a few others aren't too happy.

Check the thread for updates, but know that my posts are subject to moderation before they show up and I'm doing the slow troll thing so it won't update too quickly. If the link is dead, well you know what happened.

I've participated in forum raids in the past.

I was there for the Kathy Lee Gifford chat room raid in The Howard Stern Bulletin Board days
among others.

It's a dying breed. Sometimes I wonder if when my time comes, I will be the last surviving member of the race and it will mean extinction. I suppose I should be looking into storing some of my DNA.

The environments change but the spirit of the game lives on....whether it's Ug and Skarq around a tribal bonfire beating their chests and claiming the other one got caught balls deep in a dead pterodactyl's egg hole...or a New England farmer in the mid to late 18th Century trading snarky slurs in a science journal with British intellectuals via snail mail to the editor.

If I had to write a letter I'd have given up long ago and taken up a different hobby.

Some prefer the long game and the long game was considered short by traditional standards.
To me the long game as related to trolling is when you start with a subject that is bound to trigger people, and then you keep it moving along gradually adding information and replying in such a way as to build the pressure and intensity while skirting the fine line and not getting moderated.

Mailing a couple of letters will certainly take a long time but it's difficult or impossible to achieve the same effect given the time frame and lack of real time responsiveness. That would be more like "ongoing harassment" or something of that nature.
