I think that lockdowns did work.
But it wasn't perfect nor did it completely eliminate people getting COVID. Probably saved a lot of lives tho. The Pandemic would have been even worse without restrictions and many more people would have got sick and/or died.
Same time there was also a huge price to pay as well. Emotionally psychologically and physically. I think a lot of people simply could not handle it. Suicides marital breakups & the destruction of many friendships/lives/relationships/careers. It also destroyed many businesses too.
So yeah...they saved lives & kept people from getting sick but the social cost was also enormous and incalculable. And the economic costs will be felt for years to come. Deficits soared which permanently raised the National debt of most countries worldwide.
At some point they have to assess how far they are willing to go to save lives & at what social/financial cost.

The lockdowns ended up causing more people to die than would have died if we had no lockdowns.
If we had just been given facts and data and some support to make our own decisions for ourselves less people would have died.
The lockdowns caused deaths. Like you said, suicides, people too afraid to go to the hospital with an emergency, thousands of children starved. And the evidence doesnt support lockdowns actually lowering covid deaths.
You have to weight the benefits vs the costs and it was not worth it. It obviously wasnt about saving lives considering the lives that were lost because of the lockdowns.
Control, dumb ass.I think that lockdowns did work.

If lockdowns weren't about saving lives or preventing others from getting sick, what do you think was their purpose @Dove?
