They did… and I’ve been to Seattle and Portland since. It was tragic. But as someone who was a firsthand witness to the beginning of what started as peaceful protests, I will say that the police could have faced the crowd with a bullhorn and instead they came out ready for war and teargassed otherwise law abiding citizens.

I grew up in the hood and the vast majority of my friends since the age of 8 to this very day are black. This number spans into the thousands. Literally.
