I've seen people spend over 10 grand on a dog only to have it die soon after all the useless testing and treatment.

She was so limp when we got her back that we asked of they sedated her. Poor thing was just sick and terrified. She peed all over herself.

A lot of common issues cats get I learned how to manage and handle at home. When I was taking in strays and getting them healthy and adopted. I handled a lot of respiratory infections...UTIs....eye infections. Sick kittens. Rejected kittens. But this issue did have even me panicking

Our dog, Edgar, chose early Sunday morning to get up on the table and eat an entire pan of brownies I made from scratch the night before.

We did not rush him to a vet....we just watched for signs of chocolate poisoning and read all about it. Called the vet the next day.

Eddie was perfectly fine. Didn't even get gas.

When he was a puppy....on a Saturday night he ate an entire pin cushion and cost my man 3 thousands dollars for a surgery. They still couldn't find all the needles.

My Prudence is my baby. I am VERY attached to her.

And all the cats I had in my care all had ear mites. So I had to treat ALL the cats for earmites.

Well Prudey somehow scratched the inside of her ear and it swelled all up really bad. I freaked out and almost took her to the vet. I'm glad I took the time to look into this one. I found a YouTube channel of this man who had been a vet for many years and he would talk about all the unessesary....and even harmful..interventions vets will do just to charge for it.

And had I taken Prudey to the vet, they'd most likely tell me she NEEDS surgery. She didn't need surgery. It would have been completely unessesary and even caused more problems. The worst that would have happened leaving it alone would be her ear shriveling up. But she would be okay.

So I left it alone and kept an eye on it and it completely healed on its own. I put a cone on her for a few days because she was still scratching at it and I put ointment on it. That's it. And she healed perfectly.

You had posted that you used ointment but didn't say which, so that's good. If it happens again you could also mix in a dab of hydrocortizone cream which cuts down the itching and swelling so they don't hurt so much and won't scratch at it. But- with any steroid you gotta watch and make sure it's healing. Steroids are a magic drug but also can be a two edged sword.
