Who says whites aren't buying homes in LA?
I trucked all throughout LA when I drove truck long haul. I KNOW what LA is!

Look, I was the only White guy around for miles then, and I'm sure it has only worsened by now...

Often times I didn't see White people again until I hit Bakersfield, but those were often trashy Whites.

California as a whole is a lost cause, although I know there are pockets of good regions.

Maybe the white people you're looking for down hang around working class truck drivers and the areas they hang out it in. Ever consider that?

Is it a mostly Latino city? Absolutely. Does that mean that one, it's not prosperous? No

Does it mean that there aren't white people? Also no. Did you read the link I provided?

Also, no, hmmm?

Would you look at that, the ex office cleaner/bathroom attendant having a pop at "working class truck drivers".... unbelievable.

It's no secret that whites have been fleeing Democrat shitholes like Commiefornia for years, so what are you even arguing about exactly?

Prove that I was a working class stiff and not a professional. Go on, prove it.

Prove that I don't have a car or a driving licence. Go on, prove it.

I can't prove it for a fact, I just know it's true based on your own postings.

Ha, so by that logic, you are in fact a toilet cleaner.

No, actually not logical. I've never posted about cleaning toilets, you uneducated hack.

Don't get me wrong, as I harbour no ill will towards anyone that I dealt with there. The worst experiences I had were with the fucking Mormons in their Utah grocery warehouses. Those fuckers may as well wear a Kippah on their head.

That said, LA is just too foreign for me to feel comfortable to live in. White people like me were born and raised around only White people, and this extended to public school also...

LA proper was an experience that I would not want to live in full time.

I have no quarrel with you choosing what environment is best for you. However, that doesn't mean everywhere else is shit because you're not comfortable there.

I like going to LA for specific reasons, friends, events or activities specific to LA. I also don't want to live there, it's not my cup of tea. Not because of the racial make-up of the people that live there...but because it's overcrowded.

That doesn't work for me. However, to call it a shithole because I don't care to live there is juvenile, imo.

LA needs to seriously address it's homeless problem due to recent outbreaks of various diseases.

I'm sure that's where much of it is coming from.

I agree, it does.

Just today, Newsom is taking on the liberal NIMBYers in SF who don't want affordable housing to be developed in their neighborhoods.

Skin color does not matter to me, character does.

What about the character of someone who's got a gun pointed at your chest and for whom your skin colour is a matter of capital importance?

I'm truly hoping that your reluctance to empathize with the plight of someone else is not a Southern thing, Blaze.

I hear you Southerners are good ol' boys.

Not exactly sure where you're going with this, but I will say, anyone doing criminal activity, is not of good character.

I'll also say, the time I had a knife to my neck, it was a black dude. I did not seem to think he was of good character either.

Lil, those NIMBYers need to have their noses rubbed in the stats.

The stats are irrefutable: affordable social (even mixed use) housing, in conjunction with community-based supports and aligned with Housing First principles, significantly reduces the local crime rate, takes a massive bite out of homelessness, alleviates poverty, and helps tackle mental issues faced by individuals living in that community head on.

But, but, but their property values! Their green spaces...Absolutely entitled.

The most "liberal" of American enclaves have these type of people that make me sick. They're notorious in the wealthy enclaves in and around the Bay Area and Los Angeles, Orange County...I don't know about San Diego County, but I figure it's much the same.

Yeah, property values.

I work in such a purpose-built housing development. Before its construction, just over 70% of neighbouring residents polled by the City were adamantly opposed to the project, fearing their property values would take a nosedive. Now, ten years later, and with the neighbourhood crime rate down by a whopping 130% because of this project, the stats are reversed: in a recent poll (2019), just under 25% of neighbouring residents are still resentful of the building's existence.

And, yeah, green spaces.

With homeless folks housed, the neighbourhood is cleaner, quieter, and much more pkeasant. Fewer people camp in the local parks (much fewer, in fact) and residents of the building participate in a weekly "Good Neighbour Cleanup," to the delight of neighbouring residents.

This approach has been shown to work. Over and over again. It's not rocket science.

Years back Detroit had a revitalization Plan.. They built affordable housing and tried to make the City appealing to all. I watched a local news channel years later and was amazed that these beautiful new builds were turned to shit. They did a walk-through with cameras.. People had pissed in the hallways, trash everywhere and nothing maintained.. You can provide all the housing you want, but people have to take responsibility and WANT to have nice things. :/ I felt sorry for the people living in these places that were pissed off for the lack of care :(

Yes, you took out the skin color of the person with the knife.

Fair enough, but, the majority of the time I've been robbed, fought, fucked over, it was all blacks. Im not trying to imply any racism, these are facts.

Like I said, anyone doing criminal shit, is of bad character, period.

Does that mean I have no Black friends.... NO! Cause they are good folks, that work, and take care of their families, without doing criminal shit.

As someone who lived in Affordable Housing, this is true.

People dont take care of things, if they dont work for them. If its "free", they dont take care of it.

This does not ring true for all. But the "gimme dat" folks dont give a shit, and will happily move to the next Complex when their lease is up, knowing that new paint awaits, and filth is left behind.

There is also more theft in these areas. Trust me.

More fights and shit too.

Agreed. That's a definite risk.

Which is why supportive housing is the way to go. That's one of the pillars of "community supports." The buildings in question need to be staffed, ideally 24/7. An on-site housing support worker engages with tenants in order to help them:

-- Maintain a stable tenancy (unit maintenance, rent payment, etc.);
-- Connect with local health and social services;
-- Develop a sense of community outside "the street circle";
-- Access harm reduction supplies;
-- Deal with emergency issues related to mental health and substance use disorders;
-- Navigate the legal and health care systems;
-- Recover their dignity as human beings.

The work is worthwhile and rewarding. Everybody wins.

Thanks Lily, I do mean well.

I TRIED so hard to watch this all the way. Almost quit at 3 minutes, made it to 8 minutes, and couldnt do no more. Dude is so full of shit, on so much shit. And he doesnt realize he is coming off as racist himself. I had to turn it off.
Embrace equality my friend…equity and inclusion. One can’t legislate morality. Become part of the solution…

Um, I do? Skin color does not matter to me, character does.
As I mentioned to Dove…American conservatives are world-renowned for being staunchly racist, particularly Southerners. You would want to change that bothersome stigma and make a difference surely? I know you’re a decent fella and mean well.
A change is as good as a holliday as they say.

And yet there are several people from other countries who agree with us.

As I said, you when shut down people who do not see the world as you do, you make no effort to understand them, and you are only talk to people in your own belief bubble.....its easy to develope a huge bias blind spot where you mistakenly think your beliefs are the standard.

The "stigma" is nothing but BS propaganda to help certain parties "win".
Several people from other countries makes no difference when the overwhelming majority of the world thinks otherwise.

You shouldn’t be playing the “propaganda card” either when conservative America shuffled the deck.

Another thing to consider, Lil:

There's a slight difference between Canada and the U.S. when it comes to the type of society their respective charters are aiming to build. While most Americans will pay at least some lip service to the notion that "no one should be left behind," the fact is America is much more focused on the virtues of self-reliance, rugged individualism, and the idea that success--social, financial, or otherwise--is within anyone's grasp if only a person works hard enough at it (the good ol' "American Dream"). In Canada, on the other hand, there's a willingness to acknowledge that the playing field isn't always level and that, consequently, some measures need to be put in place that will help secure the rights (and meet the material and social needs) of society's most vulnerable individuals. This is, by the way, why certain Americans tend to view Canada as a socialistic, nanny state. Not saying they're entirely wrong about this, but that (still debatable) fact plays into the reasons for which violent crime, poverty, addiction, mental illness, and homelessness, while still issues of concern up here (of course), are significantly less thorny than they are down your way. And I'm not even bringing up the two countries' divergent attitudes toward gun ownership and carceral policies.

The fact remains, though, that racism and bigotry are also alive and well in Canada and that Canadian NIMBYers (both conservative and liberal) will guard their little slice of personal heaven with the ferocity of a pit bull.

Not so fast, Blurtski! Canada has a higher rate of homelessness than the US. We're not as socialist as you think. School meal programs aren't even mandated here, whereas they are in the US.

And do you know that in BC, a single person on welfare gets a whopping $560/month? $375 rent comes out of that, leaving you with a whopping $185 for everything else. In comparison, the US hands out SNAP cards loaded up higher than that amount.

After you are approved for income assistance, you will receive:
  • A monthly income assistance rate based on your situation and the size of your family unit. For example, for payments issued for the October 2021 benefit month, you could get up to:
    • $935.00 if you are single
    • $1,525.00 if you and your spouse are both on assistance and you have no children
    • $1,280.00 if you are a single parent with one child
    • $1,720.00 if you and your spouse are both on assistance and have one child
  • Medical services plan coverage
  • No-deductible PharmaCare prescription coverage
Please, Log in or Register to view URLs content!

Also, most of our tenants are on PWD assistance, where payments are even higher.

Stick to hauling gravel, Mel. It's what you know best.

Ok, so I've better examined the charts. A regular person gets $560 to spend on essentials. Someone who's basically deemed unemployable gets $610 for essentials. Someone deemed disabled (PWD) gets $983.50. All three get $375 maximum on top of that for rent, although I'm not too sure where one finds a place for $375.

However, I do see that if they live in one of your facilities, they get $642.37 for personal expenses, and get $716.13 for the rental portion paid to whatever care society runs the building.

I focus on this also. My numbers are always good... :CooL:

And for the record, I never focus on another man's employment, Blurtski. Most employed do play a vital role. From the janitor wiping shit off the bathroom stall walls so you can take a shit in comfort, to the construction crews that build and maintain the Western World infrastructure that supplies you with a toilet to shit in, running water in it, and a roof over your head, to the truck drivers that deliver the latest Dragon Dildo's right to your door...

Mel, really. Are you back to posting your accounts receivable again? We’ll want bank statements, too. And copies of your income tax filings. Pronto!

Seriously, though, I seem to have struck a nerve to have you go all defensive like a little boy in the schoolyard who’s just been told by the class bully that no, his dad isn’t as strong as the bully’s dad.

There is absolutely nothing in “stick to gravel and trucks, Mel” to suggest that I’m somehow looking down my nose at your occupation. I’m not. In fact, if you ever manage to get past your assumptions about my views, you may just realize that I mean only that trucks and gravel are your area of expertise, not mine. By the same token, social housing and its relation to mental health, addiction, and homelessness is mine. You won’t ever see me participating in discussions on tare, GVW, air brakes, or scale protocols. I know nothing about these things.

Ultracrepidarians are so damned annoying.

Stop being such a big bitchy baby. Next thing you know you’ll be wearing a poodle skirt and sucking on a pacifier as you rumble down the T-Can.

I'm glad that you wrote this response, tho.. I get a better understanding of where you are coming from.. considering what I've read about your prior occupation.. glad you clarified that.. I get it! :)

Thing is, Rave, Mel knows this already. He and I have had endless discussions about this very issue. Mel is playing, and counting on the fact that folks here don’t know me as well as he thinks he does.

I’ve had a variety of occupations over the course of my life on the job market, mostly in the service industry and rather more lately in the health and housing field. I’ve also worked in chemical plants, on loading docks, and in landscaping. I saw not one single one of these jobs as being beneath me. I’ve enjoyed them all and they’ve all taught me something about who I am… all this quite aside from their being crucial cogs in the economic machine.

Again, and as Mel himself likes to quip, “there are clown dynamics at work here.”

And Mel’s red schnoz is only partly due to his alcoholism.

$1000 (before taxes) is not a bad days work assuming you are an owner operator. Of course, there are costs (fuel, tires, general wear and tear, etc...) but often honest hard work of the trades does pay very well. People forget this and think getting $200,000 in debt for college is necessary when it really isn't. Many would do better skipping the debt and just going on to work in solid middle class trades. I would still encourage people to seek self betterment via reading, studying, and even community College but those are much cheaper than getting the price of a house in debt before even starting a career.

Hell, I knew a guy with a masters in electrical engineering who worked for Qualcomm for a decade. He had a team reporting to him and he made a lot of money. That said, he routinely worked 80-100 hours per week and had almost no life. When he got married and had a child he had to quit because the demands of the job prevented him from being a good husband or father. He ended up opening a restaurant and working for himself, it was slow at first, but now he is making like 3/4ths as much, sets his own hours (still long) but he can finally take time off to do things with his family. Success comes in many forms and it is for each person to decide what they value most.
