Two questions.

Why couldn't they come up with the rent?

And what was the plan for the next month and holding it down through a lease?

That's what I've asked the damsel in distress who couldn't come up with rent money. Because yeah you can pay it and help them out.....but then what? Rent is pesky. You gotta pay it every month.

I'd be concerned about why they were short and what the plan was for the next months. Was he working?

Nowhere in Canada do you get evicted for missing a rent payment.

@Joe is full of shit.

But let us watch @Joe weave his story until be paints himself into another corner.

Hahahahahaha!!!!!

You're lying @The Prowler

Interesting those are not the facts readily available with a quick Goggle

"The notice period depends on the reason for eviction, and is between 0 to 365 days. "

Zero days would be in extreme circumstances for safety issues or if the renter is doing something criminal, etc. Not for missing a payment.

Now tell me what the process is for a missed rent payment. Hahahaha!!!

I have no fucking clue how this works in Canada. I know here in Michigan you get a 5 day grace period....than you get slapped with a fine.

If the next month rolls around and you still havent paid, you get an eviction notice of 30 days.

I got an eviction notice once because they "misplaced" my rent check.

So that is missing a payment, another month goes by, then you get a 30 day eviction notice.

That is a whole month plus 30 days before you are out on your ass.

And @Joe is such a bullshitter. $200 would be a small portion of the rent he is talking about. He always talks about how expensive it is to live where he is. I know here a decent 2 bedroom apartment is $2000/month. So we will be conservative and say @Joe's imaginary friends are paying $2000/month.

That means they had $1800 of the $2000.

He is claiming that if they paid $1800 of the $2000 the landlord would break the law and toss them out into the streets? Please.

@Joe lives in a fantasy world. This is just another example.

@Joe reads and listens to the news, and that is where he gets his information about "what the real world is like". So @Joe will hear one story about how a person was wrongfully evicted, and he will think that is the norm. He does not seem to understand that only rare, outrageous, not-normal events are newsworthy.

Is there is a reason @Joe picked such a small dollar amount for the rent that was needed? People in Canada on Disability Pensions are provided rentals with extremely low rent payments (the government pays most of the rent, but the individual never sees these transactions). Is $200 more in-line with @Joe's monthly rent payment due to the benefits he receives on a Disability Pension?

Oh, wait. I forgot. @Joe lives in a $10 million house.

Here, in British Columbia, you can be served an eviction notice if you're more than 21 days late on rent payment.

English is hard.

"Getting evicted" means being expelled or removed from a property.

Being served an eviction notice is not being evicted.

Missing a rental payment is not enough to be evicted. As Blurt even indicated, 21 days have to pass before you are even served a notice. So you can miss a rental payment, and you still have 21 days to make good on it until you can be served a notice.

And when you are served the notice, you still are not evicted.

There is a whole series of events that has to happen to be evicted.

@Joe would have you believe that if the rent is not paid in full on the first of the month, they toss the mother and two children out into the streets by 00:01 on the 2nd.

Busy with work right now.

But I assure you, I will provide you with a susbstantive response when I have more time @The Prowler which will refute your initial remarks.

Turns out I was wrong. I just checked.

A 10-day eviction notice can be served as soon as the rent and utilities are not paid when due (typically, on the first of the month, so a notice is deliverable on the second day). A tenant then has five days to pay the amount owing. Failing that, tenancy ends on the final day of the period stated in the ten-day notice and the tenant must vacate on that date.

Turns out I was wrong.

At least you can admit it.

Unlike @Joe.

Fuckin' @Joe was already caught lying about who he allegedly gave $200 to. And, as I already stated, $200 would be a very small portion of the rent, and it is very unlikely that a landlord who would begin the eviction process over $200.

And Dovey asked some good question to @Joe, which he just ignored. Because he must realize that the more he says, the more he lies, and the more he gets caught lying.

Seems like quite a struggle for @Joe to come off as a hero who coughed-up a measly $200 to help someone he considers a friend.

I still haven't had time to respond.

Are you not something like 70 years old? Why the fuck would you have to work? You also have found time to make a bunch of other posts in other threads here. You were probably making an ass of yourself on other boards lately too.

You are such a stooge, @Joe.

No. I'm not lying.

In fact you already made an erroneous statement when you said that if a tenant misses one month's rent they cannot be evicted in Canada.

This is what u said earlier:

Nowhere in Canada do you get evicted for missing a rent payment

...like...Oh really? And I will later provide evidence to the contrary.

Btw I'm still going to provide u with a detailed reply but I'm at work right now.

Busy at the moment. Gotta get back to work. TTYL.

I would think that if someone is short their rent, and struggling to pay it like that....the best option is to get evicted.

They CAN(at least here) go after you to pay the rest of the lease but depending on the reason why you couldnt pay the rent, a court may let you off the hook. I'm pretty sure it will go on your credit. But to me, that's better than throwing your limited income away on something you cannot afford where every month you are struggling and stressing on how you are gonna pay.

If it were me I would look for another living situation asap, let myself get evicted and keep the money for that month. But I have no problem with "extreme" solutions like camping as a living situation.

I have a friend from childhood who made okay money as a baker....and he also worked construction a few days a week. He didnt want to rent so he legit lived in a tent for two years and bought a small house with cash. I dont know why more people dont do that. Or do the van conversation thing.

It's not hard to do. It really isnt. Just go alternative living for a while and stash your money. It's a fuck ton better than trying to live outside your means and needing help from other people for rent every month.

Things do happen that can make someone short for one month... so that's why I asked why they needed help. The reason why should dictate what kind of help is best for them. If it was going to be a monthly struggle and wasnt just some emergency event that just made them short for that month.....helping them find another alternative is better than just paying for that month only to have them struggle again.

You can help financially with another situation. That they can afford. Or to help save money.

People snub shelters or tents or crashing in vans as "homelessness" or seeing it as some horror story but there absolutely is nothing wrong with it and saving money is awesome. I would find that worlds better than being stressed every month facing the same eviction issue with no money.

What I would never do is allow anyone to move in with me. I've done that once before....never ever again. It was a total shit show.

That is very thoughtful, Dovey.

But I hope you know you are just feeding into @Joe the Liar's delusion. He did not help anyone out with their rent. He has just started with a "I am at work." fantasy. You have seen how @Joe thinks on this board; he is quite clearly unemployable.

@Joe the Liar, are you off your meds?

I helped someone out with their rent. Involuntarily. I lost $17,000 plus late fees because this state's socialist dick bag politicians wanted to play Santa Claus with other people's people's money. The attorney's fees were probably another tens thousand. So fuck you leftist shit bags. Fuck you right in the ass.

Fuckers can either pay their rent or gtfo.

Awful.

That's seriously terrible. I dont what's wrong with some people where they just screw others over like that. If I couldnt pay my rent I would just tell the landlord what was going on and get the cards on the table and keep that communication going.

Most places I've rented I havent had any issues and I always left them super clean. I HAVE snuck animals lol.

When I see people who are 40 years old and renting I wonder wtf they have done with their lives? They have had a solid 20 years to get there lives in order yet haven't done shit. Sort yourself out, man.

In that time I bought a house, paid it off, and bought three more. At this point I don't owe $100,000 on any of them. You are just lazy and stupid. By 40 you should have a few million dollars. If you don't then wtf are you doing with your life?

Honestly I just didnt really want to. My husband and i have been saving and we fixed our credit reports when we were in the recovery program. We were offered a house to buy through that program....but we didnt want to live in that city.

Now we are just looking for the right land.

Lemme guess... all them houses each come with white picket fences, a dog, a brick patio, and a sealed driveway.

Congrats! You're an unmitigated success!

You should go on a speaking tour.
