During WWII many American Japs wanted to prove they were loyal Americans. The Army created Nisei units of second gen Japs. But they only sent them against the Germans. They figured they would balk at killing fellow Japs in the Pacific. They proved to be excellent soldiers and were highly decorated. But no one expected them to kill their own. Why would we think Muslim soldiers would work out well in Iraq or Afghanistan? If we deployed against Ireland, what would Irish-American soldiers do?

My dad was going to be sent to the Dominican Republic as a Marine in the 60s. I think they also balked at sending Latinos to attack Latinos. He wasn't sent in.
