I don't know how best to express this. There are four mega-companies in the US that are literally holding up our economy, and threatening its future. I say "favorites" because we have made them what they are, and who we are: Amazon, Google, Meta and Microsoft. Those four companies are spending HUGE on AI, so much so that our GDP is flat without it, but if all of their plans are completed, our economy will collapse, our weather will change irretrievably, and much of the US water supply will disappear.* How fun! They plan, between them, 2400 data centers on top of the 4000 we already have. Estimates are that by 2028 they will consume 12% of all energy supplies in the US, even with many of them producing, or co-producing much of their own energy.
