First, in this era of helicopter parents, no kids take off to the library on their own in America today. They are accompanied by their parents.
Second, I have not only experience as a parent, but as a grandparent. My grandchild is interested in books like
He's 8 years old, in the SF Bay Area and has NEVER brought something home or checked out any material of that kind.
The material should not be available to children.
Period.
It does not have to be any more complicated than that.

I believe all material should be age appropriate. If the children are older than 14 and post-pubescent, they are naturally curious about sexuality.
