Your 225 bucks USD is roughly worth 345 bucks AUD but I spend less than that for 3 people and every 14 days.. I try to keep it below 290 AUD.
Part of that is shopping around for deals, freezing, dehydrating, and stockpiling when 50% off deals come up. I won't buy the deodorant I like unless it's 50-60% off but that only happens every few months, so I buy 3-4 cans of it when it does... and can wait for awhile.
My daughter's friends tell me that their parents are spending 300-500 bucks per week, and I ask them what they're buying. Inevitably, it's full price comfort foods, out of season fruits and veggies, "uber free range eggs", and all other retarded shit.
These people don't know how to play the game or budget effectively.
I thank my mother for instilling that fiscal sense in all us brothers.
My mother was a frugal squirrel or a "Prepper" long before she knew why she was doing it.
I loved going around to my grannies home when I could drive because she told me stories about how her family fed her in the 30's... fed my grandfather at the same time before they met, and how in the early 60's she could make two sandwiches for my grandfather from a can of spam, and make something meaningful for her 6 kids at the time, then later 7 kids. And her much younger orphaned sister when their dad died unexpectedly.
