The American South seems very attractive price-wise but it's hard for outsiders to be accepted.

Hence the word - 'redneck'. That doesn't mean 'racist' it's just like they don't accept you if you're not one of them.

I met some Southern tourists from Tennessee. They were incredibly friendly and generous but I just got the feeling there was a huge barrier between us.

if yer not one of them yer not one of them. Ya'd really have to be accepted as part of their community to feel part of that place.

I found the Australian tourists I met seemed to more receptive to outsiders.

I was doing a little research @Joe on building standards and codes. America follows International Code, whilst Australia follows National Code. And for both it’s still highly different from state to state.

Maybe it's cuz they are isolated being down under and they want the world to notice them.

Yet I think the Aussies that leave to do so cuz they feel too isolated and far away where it's happening. ie - America or Europe
