Saw exhibit at Brooklyn Museum yesterday. It was really good. This article doesn't give great examples of her work, imo. She was incredible.

She earned the first MFA awarded for sculpture in the US, but because she was black, she couldn't live on campus. She moved to Mexico, married a Mexican man, and was denied re-entry to the US because they said she was a communist. Land of the free!
