A criminal that breaks in is not looking to be shot to death.

They very well might be looking to kill you. They've already committed one crime by breaking in. Surely you're not stupid enough to bet your life they won't commit another crime by killing you.

Right... well, there is a big difference between a thief and a murderer.... Someone that breaks in has no intention of killing.

That is so ridiculously wrong I don't even know where to begin to address it. Maybe we're talking about two different things: Sometimes a burglar who gets caught in the act because he thought no one was home will run. Sometimes he won't. But home invasions, where the criminal (usually more than one) breaks into the home knowing the occupants are inside, intend violence. If they didn't, they'd wait until they thought the place was empty.

And I'm telling you this from first hand experience. I wasn't always on the right side of the law myself.

If they break in, prepared to kill you, no matter how many guns you own, you will be too late. So why would you have the guns then anyway?

Because not everyone that breaks in will know that YOU'RE prepared.

That will then also mean that they themself do not bear a gun. So.... why shoot them?

To protect yourself and your children. It's not just about protecting your home and the material items you possess. Just because you shoot someone doesn't mean you shoot to kill. It depends on the situation. If you feel your life or your children's lives are in danger then you have the right to shoot to kill because you don't play guessing games when it comes to your life or your child's life at stake. It's not "let me see what this mother fucker is gonna do before I take his ass out".....hesitation could get your ass killed and its not a risk I'm willing to take because I have children to protect. If its night time and I can't see you well enough to know if you're armed or not, I'm not guessing before I pull the trigger. If it's day time and I can see that you are unarmed, I will pull my weapon and hold you there until the police arrive. If you have a gun, your ass is done. At the end of the day it's gonna be me being with my babies or them being motherless and going to a foster home. I'll be damned!!!! Also, you can't play guessing games and play with your children's lives. You don't know if the person breaking in is some rapist pedophile that wants your kids as victims before he strangles them to death.....fucking really??? You must not have children. At the end of the day I will sleep well at night knowing my children are SAFE with a SINGLE MOM that knows how to defend herself and her children from intruders. It all depends on the situation and how well you can assess the situation at night time or during the day. There are a lot of factors that play a role on whether or not you shoot someone to kill, shoot to disarm or hold them there until the cops come.
I understand what you are saying and how you feel you need to protect the kids. By the way, I have 2 kids.
But... protecting here (the Netherlands) is apprently very different from protecting there in the US. We do not have any guns in the house, but the risk of an armed intruder is next to zero. I don't understand why that risk in your place would be so large?

That looks like pretty scary stuff. Especially the bottom one.

How do you make sure the kids do not get hold of these?

Gun locks/gun safe. My children know not to touch a gun when they see it because they have been taught. Guns also have a safety on them (a button or a switch) to prevent it from firing when the trigger is pulled. The best thing you can do with children is teach them. Knowledge is power and if you start at an early age you don't end up with "curious" kids. They already know everything about it so there's nothing to be curious about.

Kids, especially when they get to a certain age called puberty, will find holding a gun very cool. Or just a 5 year old that is curious. They can be taught so much, but there is always the risk they will play with a gun if it is within their reach.
And if you lock it, then it is useless to use for protection, because before you get hold of it it might be already too late.

No, burglars come when they're certain that you're not there at all, because they want to avoid the risk of being confronted by the occupant/s of the home. Burglars also tend to be unarmed during the commission of their crime in case they're stopped and searched by the police. Burglars prefer to rely on previous observation of the target home, detailed planning, stealth, and deniability after the fact in order to successfully carry out their crime.
Exactly, so you would not need a gun for that situation.

We don't have a "Bill of Needs."

Home invasions typically involve minimal planning, surprise, and "blitzkrieg" tactics employed against the homeowners in order to apply fear and overwhelming force; targeted homeowners are subjected to violence as a matter of course in home invasions, including battery, sexual assault, and even murder-for-the-sake-of-convenience.
And how often did you experience situations like that? I know it happens here, that is what we usually read about in the newspaper (online of course :-) ) as a "afrekening in het criminele circuit". This translates to "settlement in the criminal circuit". Meaning: "criminals killing eachother". Since I am just a very good boy, my risk on being involved in this is less than 1 percent. I assume you are a good boy/girl too....

Home invasions are rarely committed against other criminals. Yes, now and then drug dealers are targeted for invasion by other criminals; but the reward in those cases doesn't usually outweigh the risk. The usual targets of that crime are upper middle class suburbanites and on top of that, as I mentioned, targets of opportunity rather than pre-selected targets.

And do you know the cause of that? The enormous amount of weapons in the US. As soon as you weapon-up, the criminals do the same. And since it is their job, and you need the right tools for the job, they keep-up with the latest technology....

Incorrect. The cause of that is human nature. There are bad people in the world who do bad things. Sometimes because they're desperate, sometimes just because they're greedy and lazy, and sometimes just because they think it's fun.

As an example, remember news stories of teenagers and young adults playing "the knockout game"? Maybe living in Holland, it never reached your country. Basically, teenagers would sucker punch random people who were minding their own business, to see if they could knock them out. Unprovoked violence, and they engaged in it as a sport.

I'll remind you that it's illegal to rob, rape, or murder people. Robbery, rape, and murder happen anyway, because the people who commit such crimes don't care. Do you think they'll commit an extreme crime like that -- but obey a lesser law?

And I agree, the society has a lot to do with how much criminals there are. There will always be some, but into what extend depends a lot on how you treat them and how you behave yourself.
Over 20 years ago I used to live in a "bad neighborhood" in a city in the Netherlands. That meant that there were more people with some kind of skin colour were living there. I am never robbed, endangered or whatever. Nobody has broken into my home (where, for that neighborhood, was a lot of valuable stuff available). And my believe is that the absence of guns has a lot to do with that. There is of course more, like how people treat each other, but wasn't that very mych the same in the US?
When did the US start going down hill? Wasn't that when the amount of guns increased?

They are desperate for a reason. Why not care for people and make sure they are not forced to commit crimes?

Home invasions during the day probably don't happen as often as they do at night if the person is home. Most burglars wait until the house is empty to intrude. During the day, my gun is accessible to me. It is locked (there is a safety on the gun that prevents it from firing). In some cases you have to pull the slide back to load the bullet in the chamber. Neither one of my children are strong enough to cock a gun. That is the 2nd safety feature on a gun. They can't pull the slide. I don't leave my gun in my children's sight during the day but they know if they see it not to touch it. It is within my reach, though. I can "see" someone coming at me during the day. So the gun is placed in an area, safety on where I can access it easily if need be. At night when my children are sleeping, it is under MY pillow in my room- safety off- locked and loaded. At night time its different because it's difficult to see the intruder which makes it all the more dangerous. That's why I don't take the time to pull the slide back....or leave my safety on. It's ready to go. Different situations- different scenarios. At night time- with me- its less likely you will live....during the day I can see you and more than likely disarm your ass before you fuck with me or my kids. I won't shoot someone in the back UNLESS they are running towards one of my children. If they run out the door of my house I let them go and call 911 if they haven't been called already. Then I let the police handle it. If you come towards me and I know you don't have a weapon I won't shoot to kill on the first attempt but you WILL get shot somewhere to bring you down. If you keep advancing, I will shoot to kill because that let's me know you will stop at nothing to try and hurt or kill me. I will drop your ass like flies on shit. No problem.

The rifle's pretty. But if I had my druthers (and the dollars to make 'em matter) my long gun would be a Springfield Armory M1A SOCOM CQB. To my mind, nothing less than .45 in a handgun, or .308 in a long gun, will do.

What do you mean which one do I have with me? My .223 usually stays in my safe....no need to pull that out to do the job. I keep my .380 on me at all times and my 9mm in my drawer under my panties (just for your entertainment). My son used to come in the bed and sleep with me. Especially when he had a nightmare or was scared but he doesn't anymore. He likes to fall asleep on the couch watching TV. Most nights he is in his room. My daughter never sleeps with me. Lol.

No, of course there is crime here too. I just think we handle it in a good way, try to help people so they are not forced to (re)commit crimes. Social care is a big thing here; if you still get some money if you become unemployed you do not have to look for "other ways" (crime) to get money. And when something goes wrong, the prisons here have the goal to get peole back on track. Still there are criminals. Really evil ones like

Are you not scared that the one "invading" is just your drunk neighbour that tries to open the wrong door? Or one of your kids?

If you come towards me and I know you don't have a weapon I won't shoot to kill on the first attempt but you WILL get shot somewhere to bring you down. If you keep advancing, I will shoot to kill because that let's me know you will stop at nothing to try and hurt or kill me. I will drop your ass like flies on shit. No problem.
Why do you make it so personal that you want to shoot me? :'-(
I will do you no harm.

If they break in, prepared to kill you, no matter how many guns you own, you will be too late.

Please, Log in or Register to view URLs content!
. But that's not uncommon when dealing with anti-self-defense types.

When you are sleeping and someone break in to kill you? Please explain how you can get the gun before you get shot...

It's under your pillow ;)
OMG You cannot be serious?! What is one of the kids gets in bed with you?

My gun is in my bed at night. My kids sleep in their own room. They do not sleep with me anymore.

Which one do you have with you?
Btw, my kids come by at night, with the most stupid excuses usually, but also the request to sleep with me/us. Your kids probably also, because my kids are not that weird :-) At those times they are dangeresly close to your gun

Lol.

I do not know what all the calibers are and which gun is which, but I suppose the large, automatic looking one is in the safe? Why do you have it then?
And where did you keep the gun when your son was sleeping with you?

Yes, I am ignoring the panties-remarkt. Not making any sexually remarks about that. It is hard, but I managed ;-)

My daughter never sleeps with me. Lol.
Funny, my daughter loves to sleep with me, but I usually bring her back to her own bed.
My son was exactly the same when he was her age. For some reason they always wake me up at night.

Just for you liberal, anti-2nd ammendment, abolish guns bullshitters.....ALL OF YOU CAN KISS MY SOUTHERN ASS!!!!!

The rifle's pretty. But if I had my druthers (and the dollars to make 'em matter) my long gun would be a Springfield Armory M1A SOCOM CQB. To my mind, nothing less than .45 in a handgun, or .308 in a long gun, will do.

It's not that I ever want to have to shoot a person; but if I ever have to shoot a person, I don't see as there's any call to insult the poor sonofabitch on top of it.

Agreed. Mine are a .380, 9mm and .223

I range shoot all of them...mostly my .223.
For the stupid dutch guy that does not have any guns: which one is which?

The smallest one is the .380
The largest pistol is the 9mm
The rifle is a .223
And the rifle is automatic? Or semi?

I would post a pic of my arsenal, but some of y'all might cream your jeans lol. Also cause my state has been taken over by Demonrats, and has become a Red Flag Law state.
Can you please do? At least for me it is very informative...

At one time I would, in fact did years ago, shit, might even be in this thread or at another forum lol. Had it all spread out on the bed. Ice still got me beat though lol.

Internet is there for information lol. What are you curious about?

To see how much and what kind of weapons people own

Ok, fair enough. I'll give you my take....

I have a rifle for long range. Its for hunting big game, but if some shit went down, that would be my first line of defense if zombie/enemies were rushing my place.

Next in line, a shotgun. That is your all around gun. You can hunt with it, big and small game since there are various rounds of ammo, and is damn good at crowd control if necessary.

After that, is a pistol. This is your "go to gun" most the time for defense. Usually used in up close situations. Im a revolver guy, they never jam. But, my revolver is huge, so I've debated a .380 pocket pistol like Casey has, or a snub nose, hammer-less titanium .38.. or a .22 magnum. Just something smaller but effective for when Im out and about. I tell ya what though, my revolver gets a lot of looks, cause its a hand cannon lol.

My dad's old motto, "cause ya never know", was a good one. Society is not as civil here anymore, never really was, and another good motto is "better to be judged by 12 than carried by 6".

Now I have 8 years martial arts experience, even taught officers, but I would rather be safe than sorry, "cause ya never know". I also have skills with other weapons, but this is the gun thread lol.

I've had things happen in my life, and in those moments, I wish I had a gun. Other moments, I did have a gun, didnt need to fire it, but was glad I had it.

Why do you think the society has changed? Or maybe even never was like it is in Europe?

Now we are talking conspiracy theories lol. Because certain elites now own the majority of the media, and they are pushing an agenda, trying to instigate a race war, or maybe a Left vs Right war. "They" have 100's of D.U.M.B.s here in the states, not for the citizens. The biggest one is under the Denver airport. All connected with deep underground magnetic rail systems. They want this to happen, they go under, we fight it out, martial law declared, folks rounded up and thrown in FEMA camps. The media perpetuates all this violence, the way they spin things.

Have you not noticed all the hate, destruction, and murdering that has been going on here in the states lately? They are walking up to 5 year old whites kids and blasting them in the head. Its gotten insane.

Lol I was using it as a reference....not that I'd actually shoot you....kinda 3rd person. I'm not worried about ever shooting one of my kids. I would never do that. If perhaps my child did wake up in the middle of the night and come in my room meddling or messing with things I would know it was them. I don't just wake up and start shooting. I do take a few seconds to evaluate the situation prior to playing Annie Oakley. If my son or daughter ever decides they want to sleep with me I always FEEL them get into my bed. I would move my pistol from under my pillow and place it at the very edge of my bed between my mattress on the side I am sleeping on. I assure you, I take every precautionary measure and assess every situation prior to pulling the trigger. My rifle is semi-automatic and no, it's not an assault rifle. Most people think AR stands for assault rifle but it doesn't.
It stands for "Arma-lite Rifle". Some leftist and anti-gun degenerates call it an assault rifle and giving it a bad name without educating themselves prior to their dumb ass assumptions and insinuations.
