There should be a required health class that teaches about the human body. An ongoing one(like English) that is developmentally appropriate for that class. It should cover units on nutrition, excersize, anatomy and some appropriate physiology.
Eventually sexual health would start as the kids grew. Like high school.
And should be all evidence based. Not like a sex class that talks about pleasure and positions but a sexual HEALTH class that talks about function and safety and what kind of doctors do what.
There is just way too much partisan politics inserted into it. We get these vulgar and unhelpful materials that talk about humping pillows and anal sex.....but dont address any of the health and biology.
If we actually taught health like that? That would take care of many problems.

Personally, I think a LOT that is taught in school in not needed, and a LOT that IS needed is NOT taught in school.

Nope. Stuff like this and BLM/equity/crt any politics needs to not be in school.
I agree, when they get in college they can talk about that if it's pertinent to what you're studyingI think politics don't belong in school.
Ditto. It is supposed to be an institution for learning.

In school it'll always be the same, each teacher will push their own personal politics

I think sex education needs to updated so it teaches kids about the legal responsibility nor just biological functions. One reason people get in so much trouble these days is they weren't taught about legal issues such as age of consent & sexual harassment in the workplace etc.

I worked in the field of sexual and reproductive health for a good portion of my public health career. I trained teachers about teaching sexual health education. Never, in all my years in the Bay Area, one of the more liberal places in the country, did we ever, not once teach about pleasure and sexual position or sexual practices.
I don't believe that bullshit. I worked with a colleague in my office who worked for the State Dept of Public Health who were crafting the legislation for comprehensive sexual and reproductive health education for the California public schools. There is no state sponsored education that discusses anything beyond the biological facts.
I did talks in high schools, and had one boy tell me to my face that there were no consequences for most men when they didn't use condoms. I simply asked the boy if he'd considered child support. He scowled at me. Clearly he hadn't thought that through.
Don't believe the lies that conservatives post online.

Well when I learned about it it was all jiggy jiggy but nothing about the legal responsibility that goes along with it.
Which I see as a major failing in the instruction I received.
They should teach young boys that there are major consequences for rape, sexual assault, harassment if they are about to become men. So they become aware that their actions have consequences

Its trash. It's entirely focused on how "normal" everything is and how to cum. It's meant to "normalize" things.....not actually educated. Things already are normal. Kids need to be educated on the evidence based science. It's not fucking sex therapy.

I have even met guys who thought it's ok to put date rape drugs into girls drinks.
I mean the schools should include a legal responsibility component in sex education which tells students esp young boys what they CANNOT do when they become adults.
Because sexual behaviour is so loaded now with legal responsibility and liabilities these days. Part of becoming an adult is learning about legal responsibility too.

Joe......the kind of men who think it's okay to drug someone and fuck them? That's not because they were not taught it was wrong. Everyone knows that's wrong.
It's because they are sociopaths.
But yeah as a health starts to work in things like puberty and sexual health things like consent and safety should be addressed.

Another issue which I believe should be brought up in sex education classes is online sexual harassment and it's consequences.
Some middle aged guy informed me that a teen boy was harassing his daughter on the internet . So he was in the process of getting the police involved.
I mean young boys need to be informed that this sort of behavior is not acceptable and carries with it serious consequences.
That's why legal responsibility that goes along with sexual function should be taught as well. To disuadE that kind of behavior

I think schools need to teach general evidence based health and not step over the line too much into the territory of parents.
Internet access and time is something thats dealt with at home by parents.
We handle that here at home and my kids are very smart about using the internet.
The schools really should focus on teaching basic general education. Maybe send a packet for parents about internet safety and some facts and pointers to go over with your children.

I once knew some guy, a white immigrant to Canada who did that and he got his picture published in the newspaper. he was a student at this school I worked at. I didnt know him well but talked to him briefly once.
I once knew a guy who I went to high school with who used to be at all the same parties with whose girlfriend found a massive stash of child porn on his computer while he was at work. She got the police immediately.
It was all over of the news. Everyone was shocked. He was weird.....but never seemed THAT kind of weird.
You never really know, and that's scary.
When I was a teenager the sexual Frontier was like the wild west. Perhaps that was the time your mother grew up in too.
Now there are rules against this against that. What men used to take for granted can land them in jail now.
There's no 'free lunch' anymore @Dove. Just hefty consequences
It wasnt free than either, it was just overlooked or accepted. Women didnt enjoy it. It's always been a problem.
Its just that there are finally consequences.
And this is something that has to be instilled at home as part of building character. The kind of people that sexually assault other people are going to do it regardless if they are told its wrong or not.
These are not innocent boys who dont know any better. They are bullies with no proper boundaries or respect for others. My own daughter was sexually harrassed at school by older boys and nothing was done about it. It was so bad I pulled her out of school and made a police report.
The stuff you are talking about isnt due to lack of education. It's due to lack of boundaries, respect and empathy.
Drag Queen Story Hour can kick rocks too!
In fact, Elementary school kids should not be learning about sex, period!
I think sex education needs to updated so it teaches kids about the legal responsibility nor just biological functions. One reason people get in so much trouble these days is they weren't taught about legal issues such as age of consent & sexual harassment in the workplace etc. When they were younger. Ie Prince Andrew.
They dont even teach proper biological functions. Go read the "comprehensive sex ed" curriculum
Its trash. It's entirely focused on how "normal" everything is and how to cum. It's meant to "normalize" things.....not actually educated. Things already are normal. Kids need to be educated on the evidence based science. It's not fucking sex therapy.

Oh.
I think it is a proper lack of training or education.
Teens need to be told what their limits and legal boundaries are. Whether they choose to observe them is another matter.
But they should at least be informed of such matters before they become adults.
It also leaves the education system less lI able or blame worthy cuz at least the can say "See? I told ya so. So don't blame us."
I think at this point most people realize who the sexual predator is around here.
