I've thought about trying to explain it to simpletons like Lily. It's probably pointless, though.
But I'm going to try real quickly...
Take two people. One is vaccinated, one is not.
Both get infected by virus.
The virus in the vaccinated person infects some cells and produces 995 normal Covid-19 viruses, and 5 different mutations. One mutation is vaccine resistant. The antibodies that are there due to vaccine go to work and "kill" the 995 normal viruses, and four of the mutations. But the one vaccine-resistant mutation is left alone. It now can infect and multiple without competition from the other viruses that have been "killed" by the antibodies. So it infects other cells, multiplies, and spreads as viruses tend to do when the body has not built-up immunity. Now that person can shed the new, vaccine resistant variant of the virus.
Similar infection with an non-vaccinated person. The virus infects some cells and produces 995 normal Covid-19 viruses, and 5 different mutations. There are no anti-bodies yet, so the viruses spread and compete for host cells. The 995 normal viruses become dominant and that infection spreads due to it outnumbering any of the mutations. The mutations are very likely to be overwhelmed and not survive. So the normal Covid-19 virus is the one that will potentially be shed by that person.
The whole "unvaccinated people are responsible for the variants" is anti-science. It's bullshit propaganda. it is designed to pressure people to get vaccinated, and also to increase conflict between the pro and anti-jab groups. It is not an effective way to fight a pandemic. Rolling out vaccines in areas where the target virus is actively being spread is a recipe for disaster. This is why flu vaccines are always rolled out before the virus is active. They anticipate what strains will be active, and they create vaccines based on that. When they see a different strain being spread, they do not "tweak" the vaccines because they know that is dangerous.
The delta variant came out of India when there were extremely low vaccination rates. Care to explain that?

I agree. I don't think any boosters should be given yet and the push should be for everyone on the planet to be vaccinated. Because of the way people move around this planet, it is just as important to the overall health of the US for everyone in India to be vaccinated as it is for everyone in the US to be.
My fully vaccinated son just had very low-symptom Covid. I'm hoping he's super immune now.
