I look at the Cuomo situation, for example. The women he abused were paragons of modernity, great students, ambitious and assertive. And yet their fear of losing their career let that animal abuse them like an Arab sheikh.

That is not how it happens. It is really not at all that simple. See, you don't follow the cause/effect chain very well. That's why you buy into this shit. People like myself who have experienced this stuff and know and have been the victims of the history of sexism on the planet get how a woman's reaction can not be everything one might desire, and how many complicated factors and considerations inform one's reaction. For instance, up until a couple of years ago, we KNEW we would be the ones to get into trouble if we told. That's because men protected each other. Always. Don't be so thick and compassionless. It has happened to conservative women as well, you know.

I know that women can act out too, no doubt about that. However, there are a lot of men in positions of power of women that use that power to exploit, harass and even assault women. That happens more than most men care to admit.

This thread is making me recall reading Lysistrata by Aristophanes back in 2004 when I was deployed to Iraq. In it philosophers are debating how to create a more equal society (something which should excite you lefties) and the old people complained that everyone only wanted to discuss material possessions (mostly owned by the elderly) but that the old men and women's biggest problem was lack of intimacy and sex.

So their proposed solution was to have one day a year every man and woman in town would line up from the youngest and best looking all the way to the oldest and ugliest and then the oldest and ugliest would get to pick which nubile young person they wanted and then they got to have sex with them that night. First the young girls all objected while the young men laughed but then the old grannies said they'd be doing the same to all the hot young men and suddenly all the young men stopped laughing.
