Grimmy, this is in Spain? That 'Sea Bass' looks like our Smallmouth Bass. And what kind of Flounder is that? In fresh water? It is shaped like what we call a Sundial, but it has a lot more meat than our Sundials. Those are some huge carp all right!

First group of random fish were all in UK waters.
I mean there may be some kind of relation between them though I doubt it, they are a saltwater only species.

We just call them Flounder or flatties they are primarily a salt water fish but you can definitely catch them in estuaries and inlets where the water is brackish

Only the last set was Spain in the Canary Islands< Spain own them but technically the islands are just off north Africa.

Well I'll be. Looks like your Sea Bass is a relative of our Striped Bass. As soon as I saw the Morone family I knew it.
"The largest species is the striped bass (Morone saxatilis)" This from your link. Awesome fish to be sure.

Your European Flounder looks a lot like our Sundial, but with as much meat as our Winter Flounder [Black Back]. We have these Flounders: Winter [no teeth] called Black Back, Summer [razor blade teeth] called Fluke, Yellow Tail [similar to Black Back] found only in very deep water, Sundial [little meat] found everywhere the others are. Sadly, a once thriving Winter Flounder fishery was decimated by no size or other limits. It was over-fished to death. We pulled our heads out of our asses too late. Now the Fluke and Black Backs are severely regulated. Hopefully they will recover too. Back in the 1980's they put a total moratorium on Striped Bass. After several years they bounced back like crazy. Now they are in trouble again.

Do you have Bluefish in the UK? I know they are in the Mediterranean Sea, and around the Azores. Your waters may be too cold for them. Over here the waters are warming, the Blues are venturing farther North then before. You may see them some day. If so- avoid the teeth!!!!

We don't have Bluefish as far as I Know, but they look a lot like a River fish we have called a Shad, surely unrelated but very similar looking also they grow nowhere near as big.

Also you can see just from looking at European Sea Bass and Striped Bass they are the same family, a lot of likenesses there.

Where the forest meets the sea.
Today, I reached both milestones - 200 consecutive outings with a Bass caught, and 2500 Bass caught over the past 5 years.
Tomorrow, I will make my last trek in to my favorite Largemouth Bass lake (tomorrow being the last day of Indian summer), and after that at least one (maybe as many as 3) journeys to the big reservoir for some year's end big Smallie fishing.

Where's Holliday?!? The fish quit biting when he left. Serious- not a fish the entire month of October. This is normally fill the freezer month. COME BACK HOLLIDAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I am now at liberty to post.
. I apologize for any angling woes my absence may have caused.

. My report is quite good, that of these last two outings at the big reservoir. This is my favorite fishing of the year and near to the last if I decide to travel one more time.
.The last two Wednesdays the big reservoir was hot. Both days 26 catches (each day) mainly on spinnerbaits the first day which was in high winds, and all on swimbaits the second except for 3 on jerkbait (Crystal Minnow - Rainbow Trout pattern), that in calmer waters. No one is there in midweek, the place is mine and the Bass are madly aggressive. They are found mainly schooling under or chasing baitfish so when you find one you've likely found half a dozen within 20 minutes or so all in a class. So yesterday I came into a school of 2 1/2 to 3 lbers and had a blast. The last half of October (particularly the last week) and the 1st two weeks of November can be amazing action. I always have one but often more than one 20+ day. I'll try to get up again around the beginning of the second full week of the month then wait till nexyear. Fall Bassing the reservoir is the only way to finish off the fishing season. November often gives me my best day though it can be uncomfortable weatherwise - like 33 degrees and howling wind uncomfortable. Well worth a little pain though IMHO.
. Hope this helps your catch rate.

WOWSERS!!! Welcome back! During the ban you went fishing, my kind of guy.

By me, we wait all year for Fall fishing. They commit suicide on anything you toss their way. This year, we had a hurricane sit offshore, a Nor'easter slam us, and another hurricane looming. This makes ten foot surf which gets sand and silt stirred up in the water. This irritates their gills and they seek cleaner water- usually offshore. The Blues, Fluke, Porgies, even the bait fish, all left. Everyone is complaining, boats are coming out early. The Long Island Fisherman keeps reporting that everyone is catching record amounts and you better get in on the action. Come spend some money! We nick-named it the Long Island Liar. I am pulling the Whaler soon as well. Cold weather boating is no fun.

But that leaves surf, jetty, pier and other means of fishing. I am fluent in all kinds. My biggest fish usually come in November. The big guys are feeding to put fat on and will take a bait they would turn their nose up at in Summer. You just have to watch the weather and plan accordingly.

FWIW my Cousin in PA has given up. They are having torrential rain that muddies up the waters and kills the fishing. he may try again if it is not too cold.

Indeed, BF said I could leave the house for fishing only while banned.
. Inland, here, we have still had little rains and the reservoirs and rivers etc are all below usual season levels.
In the big reservoir the low levels translate into big catches as the fish are concentrated as a result.
. Further to that, the deep rocky waters don't muddy up as do other waters so they remain a good bet even in the rains. I got maybe that last day I'll go and call it a season, or if I don't go it was a finish to remember so I'm fine with that too.

Well, I got no sleep again thanks to the ball game. Hey Holliday, you like Midsomer Murders? Me too! I have every season on DVD. Those got us through Covid nicely.

So me and the grandson pulled the Whaler out Saturday. The wind was HOWLING, cold, the high tide was what I normally would call low tide. While waiting for the water to come up, we emptied the dock box, took in the fenders, lines, and charging system, tidied up so would not have to do it later. By the time we got it out and trailered, it was getting dark. I refuse to trailer at night due to rubberheads, so I left it locked up in the marina lot and went home for the game.

Today all we had to do was go to the lot, hook it up, and tow it home. Good thing we did it yesterday. Today was a nice day and the place was mobbed. My guys that are in the know said all we can do is wait for the Stripers to pass by. Fine by me. I can use lures I would normally not use because the Blues will destroy them.

. Re: Midsomer Murders - wonderful acting and story telling, though I much prefer the John Nettles episodes.

. Well, as noted the weather has been unfriendly and the only day I see that isn't freezing w/snow or with 15 mph winds is this Saturday, so for a last adventure it's to the big reservoir I will go. In spite of being a w/e there should not be many if any anglers there in the afternoon. Everything all ready to go but the coffee - then wait till nexyear.

Re: Midsomer Murders
I have NEVER been able to tell who the murderer was until it was solved. I find that truly amazing. Another good binge watch is Homicide- Life On the Streets. Lots of big names got started on that show.

I now have the Whaler cleaned, winterized, and up on blocks in my back yard. Done for another season. That hot Summer really did some damage.

I agree, I think Saturday is the only hope this week. A nice day predicted, tides are pretty good, and I have plenty of bait. I usually set out a chunk of bait on a fishfinder rig. Then cast around while waiting. You never know which will get the hit.

Is that for the stripers?, or whatever is in a bitey mood?
. Yeah - I think on the first runthrough a couple of years ago there was 1 that I figured out the killer in advance.
One thing you know is it isn't the one you think it might be so it must be someone else.

Murdock Mysteries is good also, but the writing starts to suffer in the later episodes. I found another more recently - Miss Fisher Mysteries, but I have only seen the 1st 7 episodes and haven't found where to keep watching free.
Miss Fisher - got to be okay with a name like that, right. Plus she's pretty hot for an older gal.

The small fish leave early. But the big boys hang around to put on fat. I have caught huge Blues in late November. Even big Fluke can be found. Stripers can stay as late as Christmas. The biggest I ever caught was in early December. Quite often when fishing for a Thanksgiving Bass, you come up with a bigass Blue. Of course, an early snowfall can shut everything down. They can't take that fast of a water temperature change. I used to be able to squat on the beach with a small bottle of Southern Comfort and watch the rod in a sand spike. I never felt the cold. I don't drink now so that may not work.
