Rottenhouse went illegally armed to a demonstration with murderous intent.
He picked out Rosenbaum as a target and stalked him, momentarily lost him in the confusion during which time Rosy got behind him and yelled to him to fuck off while assaulting him with a thrown plastic bag from some 50 ft away. Rottenhouse felt threatened (he claims) by the deadly projectile and fired four (4) rounds from his illegal carry gun into his first victim.
He then fled his crime, but was pursued with the intent of disarming him by several persons. When these good citizens who were seeking to prevent a continued murderous rampage by the killer, caught up to and attempted to control his weapon (to disarm the murderer) he then killed one and wounded another.
