In many countries it is considered an assault weapon and it is permabanned.

Actually in Canada and other countries the AR 15 is not considered a long gun but an assault weapon. It is currently banned in Canada for that reason

CANADA banned the AR 15 before the Kenosha shooting because of a mass murder shooting in Nova Scotia in which a lone gunman used it to go on a mass shooting murder spree. He killed a police officer too.
