So if we are gonna be putting people on welfare, why dont we have them get job skills and education so they can get better jobs and work towards getting OFF rather than just fucking their whole life?

My first year in grad school, I knew a woman that was graduating that year who was a single mom as a teenager. She got pregnant as a senior with a promising academic career ahead of her. She chose to keep her baby.

However, what she did after having her baby was make better choices. She used all the available services, childcare, SNAP, WIC and all the rest while she did what? Went to jr college, then on to get her undergrad degree and eventually she was graduating with her Masters. She talked about how hard it was being a single mom and running dealing with the bureaucracy. If I remember correctly, she also worked on those campuses part-time as well.

But she did it for her child and for herself. You know what she didn't do? She didn't become an addict, she didn't stay home and watch tv all day, she didn't make excuses. She didn't have one kid after another. She never had an abortion. She never cast herself as a victim of anything.

I think having immigrant parents made her strong. Her mother was Russian (blonde blue eyed) her father was Filipino, tallish, dark and handsome. I met them at her graduation. This woman was absolutely smart and gorgeous. Flawless olive skin, beautiful slightly slanted big green eyes, willowy and feminine figure, shiny black hair...

She was also incredibly kind, interesting, funny and outgoing.

It's possible to overcome the obstacles we're presented with. It's a matter of resilience. She was resilient and an admirable figure.

My sister married into a large family I think there were 11 Kids, one of the older Daughters was hooked on heroin for years, a lot of the time homeless and on the street, occasionally one of the siblings would take her in, and then kick her out again for stealing stuff....in and out of rehab the whole 9 yards, no one knew how or why, but apparently she decided she'd had enough of the junky life she cleaned up her act, finished her College Degree and then got a J.D. she would not have been able to finish her education without a lot of financial aid. she went to work helping the downtrodden addicts and homeless like she had been

So she "pulled herself up by the boot straps"?

Interesting. Again....YOU are the one who supports the system. Yet you have a view that you shit on Republicans for having.

I'm not sure what your point is. Unless you think everyone has to live in their sons house and trailors are for bad lazy people who made bad choices.

You are just a hypocrite with a snotty attitude. I dont think YOUR choices served you well at all. You dont live in your own house and you arent very intelligent.

Just sayin.

She took advantage of the social safety net and worked hard to get off the system. It's not impossible, it's hard work. But everyone can work hard, even if that means going to therapy, getting rehab...whatever it takes. They need the safety net, which this woman had in California.

If a person is stuck, it's because they aren't working hard enough or they live in a shitty red state with a poor safety net.

Funny how many single black mothers are stuck on the system here in Michigan under blue policies and they work VERY hard.

And you are making arguments that you claim REPUBLICANS make.

So much for systemic racism, huh? They just need to work harder. Who knew Detroit was red.

I'm not trapped on the system because I was too smart to get on it to begin with. I see what happens. You dont. Ignorance is bliss.

So are single white mothers. I don't know what kind of services there are in MI, but in California, there is a lot of support for single moms.

It's working and middle class mom's that are fucked here. They get no help and sometimes they barely make more than the poverty level.

And in CA a lot of women with kids work plenty hard but cannot afford to take raises because just like there....they will lose their benefits way before they are in a position to handle that.

I would like to see people helped OFF the system....but people like you claim that is devoid of "compassion". While you say the same shit you claim WE say.

You cant cry systemic racism while saying "just work harder". You really dont know what a lot of people are up against.

Child care expenses make work almost counter productive for minimum wage level mothers.

How the fuck js someone gonna work harder when they have 5 kids....and their friends kid...no family support?

You know sometimes it has nothing to do with how hard a person works and everything to do with the fact they maybe dont have a car. Or dont have the child care they need.

I know many single who bust their asses and work harder than anyone. They are still fucked if they make more than their benefits allow.

The benefits are for poor people. What are they not taking advantage of training/education so that when they finish it, they don't need government to support them?

Being on benefits the rest of their children's lives is allowing themselves to be at the mercy of the government. Women in red states are in even worse position.

Yes, they learn to live with the system. It happens here too. I think it's a terrible thing. The social safety net is supposed to be temporary, certainly not generational.

So, do you think the answer is for the working taxpayer to keep forking ever more money so that the people that are in difficult circumstances get even more benefits?

Being a Native of NYC you surely are aware of the rapid disintegration of a once large manufacturing industry in the City putting generations of families out of work......

But you keep supporting the people who enable that none-the-less. Your state has some of the highest taxes in the country and some of the lowest quality of life. Which essentially means people who pay taxes aren't getting their monies worth because the scum YOU support prefers to use the money to make themselves feel better.

San francisco has poop maps they hand out to tourist their homeless crisis is so bad and they are actually considering giving 5 million to individuals in reparations? Please. Pontificate elsewhere.

Your post is incoherent and shows disorganized thinking.

I want people to have social safety nets. I think they are necessary. Therefore, I will support the programs that help people out.

There is no shame in it.

You support politicians who encourage lifelong dependence on the system and your fancy little flab dance you attempt to pull when people expose that isn't going to work here. Especially when you have proven you can neither read, nor write effectively and you struggle with basic math.

Dismissed, piggy.

No, there is no need for lifelong dependence. There is an escape hatch, people have to want it. However, the government can't hardly punish minors for the incompetence of their parents.

You think the government should punish kids by kicking their loser parents off of benefits?

You would.
